Target chairs are always rather small, and they do knockoff some nice patterns, check them out.

If you can, I would widen the doorway to hall. It would make things seem more balanced and let you put furniture slightly blocking it.

Second, move the rug angled to the fireplace and put the couch on it. behind the couch put the pedestal table and put some plants on it.

Third, get a big round rug and put it where the other rug was. Put the armchair on it, angled toward the room. Add another armchair and a coffee table. This is now a reading corner.

Add curtains. The same long curtains to both sets of windows to tie things together. NOT brown. You seem to have pops of blue around the space so I would go with that.

The Expedits are very wide and heavy looking, I would replace them with less deep bookshelves. White like the table might look good.

Also, use some more vertical elements to accent your lovely high ceilings, like a tall vase filled with reeds by the fireplace on the dining room side.

Maybe I'm coming from a different design standpoint, but that table made me immediately think of these chairs:

I love the gothic feel they give together, but the addition of some homemade cushions (or store bought) would break up the matchy-ness and be fun too. It would help if I knew more about your overall style.

I can't see the legs, so I don't know if this is a good option, but World Market sells canvas designed to slip onto director's chairs with all sorts of cute designs. It might be worth checking out.

Hanging curtains on both walls of the corner would work, but I suggest you look into a folding screen. I can see you have an interest in Southeast Asia from your decor and a screen might fit in nicely.

We used to make these in grade school, albeit ours were always themed around some holiday color. :)

Okay, a lot of this will sound like an echo but here goes.

1. Paint the trim white.
2. Paint the picture rail and the area above it white (to match the ceiling).
3. Move the tables to the sides of the sofa.
4. Paint the blue frame dark brown and move it down and to the right. Regroup the smaller paintings to the left (you may have to add one or two more to balance things).
5. Place a lamp on the left hand table.
6. Move the things over the doorway to the right hand table and construct a vignette. Adding a plant may help (balance it with the lamp or use a matching pair of lamps instead).
7. Add a single pair of matching neutral pillows (20x20) to the couch (pull the main color of the pillows from the lighter color of the rug).

Good luck! :)

Awesome, kudos to Andree. the only place I feel like there was a style tiny mismatch was in the lamps. But at the same price point you could get different looking ones from Pearl River ($12.50): http://pearlriver.com/asp/v2Detail3.asp?iPic=5324&iGroup=278

Also, if you wanted the bird and the bell jar from the vignette originally displayed you could definitely find a raven in craft stores around Halloween($7) (http://ws-inc.amazonwebstore.com/Raven-Table-Decoration-Halloween-Decorations-and/M/B000H3UFA0.htm?traffic_src=froogle&utm_medium=organic&utm_source=froogle) and I've seen bell covers and that moss stuff at Target (I can't find it on their site, but a simalar look could be captured by inverting this vase ($16.99): http://www.target.com/Globe-Glass-Vase-11-6/dp/B000P3ZWL4/ref=sc_ri_3?ie=UTF8&pf_rd_r=167JJ7C6AEZ333RMW2MR&pf_rd_p=471801991&pf_rd_i=B001ELSFQA&pf_rd_s=bottom-11&pf_rd_m=A1VC38T7YXB528&pf_rd_t=201 ).

Really, I was excited when I read the words before I clicked through the pictures. It doesn't look like they sanded at all. If I wanted a piece of furniture that looked like that, I would pick one up free off of Craigslist and half ass it myself. Except it appears they are also camping Craigslist, so I guess the question of why all the free furniture is already taken has been answered.

Okay, lets do this thing right and do a mini round up. I'm living in a "developing nation" and food covers are a must. The battle against the ants is unending, but at least this way I can keep the flies down.

Kicking it off, the classic food cover you can buy from pretty much anywhere: http://www.alacook.co.uk/item--Nylon-Umbrella-Food-Cover--KCCOVER30.html

It becomes cuter when you perform a quick DIY: http://www.allaboutyou.com/craft/decorate-food-cover/v1

These camping style food covers fold flat, though stylistically they leave me cold: http://www.improvementscatalog.com/product/pop-up-food-covers.do

These ones have enough style for an entire apartment though: http://athome.kimvallee.com/2008/07/summer-bamboo-food-cover-at-graham-and-green/

And I'll end with my very favorite, the kind like bassinets: http://www.balifurnish.com/handweaved-bamboo-food-cover-bali-indonesia.html

Enjoy, and remember, you're lucky these aren't a part of your everyday life.

If it was designed for Barbara Bush, chances are it has something to do with Mark Hampton (unfortunately deceased). Try a search for "Mark Hampton vintage fabrics." His daughter has continued in the family business, so it might be worth it to do a search on "Alexa Hampton" too. Other than that, the words that pop into my mind when I see the pattern are Federalist and liberty print. Happy hunting. :)

My first thought was "I want to see a reddish orange console pop against that wall!" On further staid consideration (IE reading the comments) I realized that not everybody could take that day after day. So my second thought is pick a light colored wood that complements the tones in the floor and wall to keep things bright.

Apartment Therapy New York | Good Idea: Stencil as Wallpaper

I went to elementary school in a depressed blue collar neighborhood so the car options were: Ford, truck, motorcycle, bus. The most important part of the game was trying to figure out who the person was secretly rooting to marry. If you were their best friend and knew their crush you would deliberately include him. Because we half way believed in the power of MASH affecting our futures. Another important source of prognostication was apple stems. We'd twist the apple stem while singing the alphabet song. The letter it broke off on was the first letter of our future husband's name. This could be repeated to acquire initials. We also did daisy chain, coke tab, and eenie meenie minne moe predictions about the same thing.

I must respectfully disagree. What we love is not things, it's the way they make us feel. If you can only get the feeling you are seeking from one specific piece, I encourage you to save up and enjoy that piece for the rest of your life. But most people are more flexible than that and a focus on "the One" actually distracts them from what they were originally seeking. When they acquire the piece of their dreams it does not automatically confer the magical feeling. I wish people would learn to be happy with what they have and what they can afford. Sometimes knockoffs are good enough and substitution can be a force for deeper reflection on what we really wanted in the first place.
