I'm a big shoe and bag hoarder and I found a few tricks for storing that you may find helpful:
1)Stuff your bags with tissue paper to help keep their shape. Then stack them in one of those fabric shelf systems that loop over the clothing rod in the closet
2) Same thing for boots: it helps to stuff them with tissue paper so they stay upright
3) Always store shoes toe-to-heel to fit more on the shelf
4) Storing shoes in their boxes makes it easy to stack them AND you can place a picture of the shoes on the outside of the box to ID them
5) If possible, try keeping like with like i.e. boots with boots, black shoes with black shoes etc. It makes getting dressed in the mornings easier
6) Donate, donate, donate. When something is out of style or you haven't worn it in more than 12 months, it's time to find it a better home

I don't get it. Why would you want to celebrate other people on YOUR birthday? After all, they have their own birthdays where they can be celebrated. If it's YOUR birthday it should celebrate YOU in all your special snowflake glory!

My grandmother in Romania had a hole house like this. Each room was done in a different color/ pattern. Back then it was also popular to paint the wall and a bit of the ceiling and then draw a dark line around the edge to create a picture border on the ceiling. Kinda cute/kinda kitchy.

Interesting home - seems a bit like a hodge-poge of objects from different eras, styles etc.
However, the color pallette ties it all in.
The only exception is that turquoise bathroom.. what's up with that?
I love the top floor with the terrace the best ... airy and modern.
Surprised they would allow AT to photograph their twins though given all the speculation in the Romanian media.

We actually own 4 of the Tobias IKEA chairs and have had them for 2 years now. They are very comfy and look just as beautiful as when we bought them. Totally recommend those! IKEA actually released a new version in grey which we're thinking of buying to add to the mix.

Love the use of the colder, darker colors: Navy and Dior Gray - really makes the rest of the furniture stand out.
After reading the "this house is not a home" - type comments I can see where some people can see how it may feel a little too staged and matchy-matchy at times.
I do appreciate however the richness (quite literally: Hermes blanket in the "study" anyone?) and warmth that this home exudes. Well done!

Agree - it looks much more interesting with plants and vines climbing over it. However it loses its' practicality that way as I'm pretty sure it would make it hard to sit in those chairs or place anything on the table once it has been covered with vines.

fabric coupons for a dedicated quilter; vegetable seeds and a spade for the avid gardener (this would be the gift that keeps on giving!). I love the idea of labor coupons so I'll give "Free Babysitting" coupons.

I agree with 9flights and sparrowirene that the shelving by the bed is very interesting and functional. Not crazy about the bedside placement as I would be afraid that the flower pot might provide a rude awakening one day.

Lovely sofa - I actually just ordered it in espresso. I sat in it at the showroom ( they had the one in Pear Green) and it is very comfortable: wide, plus seats, angled backrest.
And even thought it's plush it doesn't lose it's clean lines.

Love the idea and if you want to take it up a notch - we are actually contemplating hanging a carpet on our dining area wall using this system.
A friend of mine used it to hang a decently sized Persian rug (better than having people walk all over it and ruin it!).

Hmm .... If he was doing this as a statement then the proper place to display it would be a museum ... and if collectors want to buy, why not?
By commercializing the piece he diminishes the rebelliousness of the artistic statement.
However I don't think I would have the same reaction if he was using Brancusi's "Bird in flight" for a doorstop. I guess for me an Aalto vase is just overpriced glassware.

I agree with "wende in san francisco" - some of the stores that have been referenced over and over again are a bit on the pricey side.
And speakind of sides - and sideboards in particular - my husband and I are currently looking for a nice sideboard that won't break the bank. Even though we have both spent countless hours searching it seems that the furniture design stores have agreed that for four pieces of wood and three shelves one must pay over $1000 - $1500. Therefore I commend Ikea even more for creating affordable furniture that you can bear to look at.
I really like the stark look of Joseph's apartment - although it may seem a bit cold at first glance. And the metal is really easy to upkeep too! ( trust me - you learn to care about those things when you don't spend much time at home)
