@Sandyflew--- YES!!! I couldn't agree more. This room is gorgeous, but the term "budget living" to me seems like it should be more about being on a "regular folk" budget! Before & After: A Mid-C Modern Bathroom Sunset |

I go to this market twice a month, I live about 45 mins east. I LOVE IT. My son and I go to be foodies- we literally walk around and buy a bit of things here and there, mostly cheese, veggies, bread, wine. Then we go for a walk around downtown, take some pictures of buildings we love, and sit in a park and enjoy our goodies. It's am amazingly diverse place, and while NOT cheap overall, there are great deals to be had. And I agree with a previous comment-- the cheese there is to DIE for. Ah. Love it. So... a bedroom shared with a 4 yr old? My gad, I'd go insane. I NEED, I mean NEED, my own space. Sharing a room would make having overnight visitors (say, a boyfriend?) impossible, no? That being said- it's an adorable place! Kay's Fun & Functional Small Cool Contest |

Holy blip. I live about an hour from Toronto (about 40 mins by GO Train). I pay $1000 a month for an all inclusive, main floor two bedroom in a century house/triplex. It's on a busy street, and some people say the neighborhood is bad (been here in this area 2 years, ZERO area related problems). BUT, I get my place- which is about 800sq ft. LAundry in the basement, large fenced yard, 2 blocks from a park/playground/rec centre, close to kids schools, a block from shopping, on transit route, three blocks from a big shopping centre, all new windows, hardwood floors, original crown moulding and details, kick ass landlords, pet friendly... I am now counting my lucky stars it's only $1000 a month! Thanks AT for showing me some appreciation! ;) What's the Highest & Lowest Rent You'd Pay in Your City? Survey |

Yeah I live in a century home, haven't seen any mice. A newer build home we had, had mice. For like a week. And moles. We have three cats so it was like mousey suicide to come into our place... we had a ton of dead ones for the first week. I imagine the mouse convos went like this: Mousetraps by Roger Arquer |

I might CRY I am sooooo in love with this. <3 When my kids grow up and spread their wings, this is exactly the sort of place you will find me. Though, living in the GTA (Toronto area), not sure how practical it is... Might need to head West! ;) Malissa's Perfect Retreat Small Cool Contest |

GO FOR IT! You don't want to think "what might have been....." the best sofa I ever had was $10 from Goodwill. The worst? $2400 leather sofa. Just do it! Should I Trade My New Sofa for a Used Vintage One? Good Questions |

I'm so sad about my new bathroom. The rest of the apartment (main floor century home) is fabulous, the bathroom KILLS ME. I painted it yesterday (and lawd, painting over someone elses crap patch and paint jobs SUCKS)... and it still is... disappointing. It's about 3ft by 7ft, no bathtub, but I do have a window (!! happy dance!!). IT went from SMURF blue (seriously), to greige. And I really want the funky spa atmosphere. It's only been 8 days living here, so I'm sure I will work it out, but... sigh. I dream of a nice big bath like I had in the farmhouse my ex and I owned. Yeah I just moved into a new place this past weekend, and already miss my bathtub! :'( This bathroom is 3.5' by 6.5'. It's SO narrow. :s There's not even a space for a towel rack - you wouldn't be able to open the door. I'm not quite sure what the hell to do with it- and they painted it like acid robin egg blue. It's.... nice and clean but tiny and non functional. And with two kids... I'm at a loss. 7 Ideas for a Tiny Bathroom |

Wow... I haven't heard of anyone where I live having a bed bug issue, luckily enough... but we adopted a cat a while back that came with fleas. Yeah. Fun times. :'( With three cats and two dogs, was a nightmare. And we once had a horrid mouse problem living above a restaurant (ewww) but no bed bugs. Knock on wood. I'd lose my mind. Moved into a MUCH MUCH smaller house/main floor this past weekend. So it used to be nothing under my bed, now it's... artwork that doesn't really fit my decor anymore but I can't bear to part with- disassembled kitchen table, extra curtain rods, picture frames, etc. I'm actually surprised at what fits, because it's an Ikea Malm bed. I love living "on my own"-- I mean, three cats, to big dogs, and two kids age 10 and 4. Buuuut... I must say, I can go to bed with zit cream on, hairy legs, eat popcorn in bed and keep a reading light on all night, snore, drool on my pillow, control the heat in the room, etc... without disturbing anyone (or grossing them out!). I'm so so happy after years of living with a difficult ex husband I can actually, oh, I dunno, listen to salsa music instead of a football game. Yeah... kinda going through this now... Everyone said how the condo townhouse complex I live in was awful, to look at other places, not to move there, etc. I remember friends growing up here, and the odd riffraff, but nothing awful. WELL... I've been here 17 months, moving in two weeks. Can't handle it. Lady next door and her psycho husband beat each other up in the parking lot, she screams he sold her pills allll the time, she calls the cops whenever she sees a guy she doesn't recognize come over, she kept a log of who came and went from my house and if they stayed overnight, who took my kids (my brother often does, as does their dad)... THEN after I called 911 when her husband was choking her in the parking lot, she called the cops on me and said she thought I was making PORN (?!) and was worried about my kids and the frequency of my visitors. Whaaaa?! THEN they got a dog who is psychotic, attacks my dogs, barks NON FREAKING STOP.... the other neighbor on my other side lets her dog poop ON MY DOORMAT all the time.... so I bag it and put it in her mailbox. The neighbor across the hall from us screams obscenities at my visitors if they park NEAR the line dividing parking spots, a kid got stabbed a few months ago, my 9 yr old son got shot in the neck with a pellet gun while outside playing, and 5 guys ages 18-22 moved into a unit about 5 doors down, and party EVERY. NIGHT. I should have listened to everyone who said not to move in here, but it looked so pretty, unit was great, cute little yard, rent was right, and I was moving after a divorce and from out of town. I should have listened... :'( How Seriously Should I Take Warnings from Neighbors? Good Questions |

I have tons of keep calm stuff now... I got "KEEP CALM (om symbol) CARRY ON" tattooed on my inner wrist, about the size of a deck of cards... and now everyone gets me Keep Calm mugs, shirts, posters, etc... but I'm telling you, some days when I want to kill people (thanks to living in an urban area with a billion people, some days I just can't cope!), seeing "Keep Calm" on my wrist chillls me out before I end up in jail. I think the lead picture may be the best picture I have seen. Ever. HAhahah I love Bulldogs. My tattoo artist friend painted me a pic of my cat after he passed away, and it means a ton to me... very special and very personal. I had my cat for 19 years, so he was my buddy and I'm SUPER glad I have this painting... Giving Props to Prized Pets: Personalized Prints & Portraits |
