Oh adorable! It makes me want to get another Roomba.

Though, like funstraw, I get pretty frustrated with them. They break after about a year, they need to be watched so that they don't get stuck somewhere, and they're not terribly efficient at picking up everything on the floor. That said, given how much I vacuum without one, even a halfarsed job is better than nothing.

It looks fantastic, but god, it's giving me flashbacks to the time I painted stripes in my bathroom. What I thought would take a few hours ended up taking me DAYS to get right.

Ideally, I do it all before. Realistically, I do it after. It always gets done one way or another, though.

How to paint a room! I feel like it's easy to throw color up onto my walls but hard to get it to look great.

How to hang window treatments would be nice too. Ooh, and how to change out a light fixture.

Sugar has worked for me in the past. You don't need much, maybe a teaspoon or tablespoon if the dish is large. It does a pretty good job of cutting the salt to a tolerable level and if you use it sparingly won't make the dish sweet.

never a convenient spot for the garbage can

I'm dealing with the garbage can thing at the moment. Right now it sits in my living room! Woe.

So as a condo dweller, my trash is not collected by the DPW. Can I still place my tree outside in a treebox for collection?

Agreed with the rest on not painting the siding but going wild with the trim and doors. I really like the idea of a dark red, or maybe a navy.

DC upholsterers?

Does anyone know of a good and cheap-ish place around DC to get a wingback chair and ottoman reupholstered? I would prefer to supply my own fabric and I would prefer it to be close to DC proper, since I would need to rent a car to get the chair and ottoman to the store.

I have dreams of redoing the chair myself, but everyone says upholstery is a pain in the ass and it's better to take it to a professional.

See, that picture is a good example of my issue with West Elm as a whole. It looks awesome and I would totally want my office to look like that. But the moment I get into the actual store and start looking at the pieces individually, I realize I don't really like any of it well enough to want to buy them. *sigh*

As for large letters, found a couple of things:

Paper mache letters (cheap, but maybe not the look you're going for): http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?ref=sr_gallery_20&listing_id=16291159

You could buy them from a sign maker, which is slightly pricey but totally customizable: http://www.woodlandmanufacturing.com/aluminum-letters.asp

Or I found a couple of hits on ebay. Though with those letters you may have to do the distressing yourself.

Ack! Omg, no no no no no. This is not where we're headed is it?? I stomach MCM as best as I can, I will have to quit design blogs entirely if I have to put up with an 80s revival.

Thanks for all the suggestions on fabric stores! I've been to G Street, but it just feels so far away, you know? Plus, I've had weird customer service there. I kept getting shooed away.
