Yes! We had many peanut butter sandwiches when traveling in New Zealand a few months ago. We did our fair share of eating local food, but lots of days we were just too busy to find a restaurant for a quick lunch, or we were going on a long hike, etc. and the peanut butter sandwiches were perfect. It depends on the workout. Resistance = protein (protein shake, Greek yogurt, etc). Cardio = sugar immediately, carbs a bit later.
