They look good, but the skillet cobbler looks better for something other than strawberries. If they are good, they don't need cooking. Driscoll's are fine if you are garninshing restaurant plates, but are generally the most tasteless berry I have found. I think they are the strawberry version of hothouse tomatoes.

Rhubarb? I'm in.

8-inch and 10-inch for bascs and then branch out after you have gotten used to them. My nephew is the current family curator of the deep chicken fryer with domed lid. He knows very well that he will be haunted by ancestors and mutilated by living relatives if anything ever happens to it.

The classic 6-quart black iron dutch oven is a wedding gift for the ages. Any man whose bride does not appreciate such a gift should divorce immediately and take the pot with him.

Do not worry too much about handling large pans. My petite grandmother knew how. She put the cold pan on the stove, warmed it up for cooking and cooled it down before attempting to move it. She also know how to tilt the pan while it was still in contact with the stove to remove excees fat with a spoon. If you are needing to clean a CI skillet, it can be cone right on the stove by scraping all the bits out and then scouring until clean with salt and a clean rag. It is not the soap and water that cleans cast iron but the heat of the pan when it is reading for cooking. Even the health department says so.

It would help if you could outline a bit of what halal requires. I just don't really know.

I do know that a friend who was raised as an Episcopalian was broken hearted when his favorite halal butcher went out of business not too long ago. He said the meat was great!

I'm sure the food processor makes it very easy, but why not 'go green' and make it by hand? It takes very little time using the mountain-of-flour-with-a-crater-at-the-top-for-the-eggs method and cleanup amounts to scraping and rinsing a cutting board and washing your hands. There is no electricity involved and perhaps the satisfying acts of mixing and kneading are good for our overly rushed days.

Wonderful pie! The hardest part about it is making the crust. You can also use a regular flour-based crust, baked and cooled. Though many associate a crumb crust with key lime pie, the flour crust is quite traditional and cuts the sweetness a little.

If you are so inclined, you can serve the filling as a pudding and just top with a sprinkle of crumb crust mixture as garnish.

I hope you have a good pair of scissors and an electric can opener. I use a manual can opener and was very grateful for the loan of an electric opener from a friend. I would have been lost without the microwave.

I also learned to define sadist as the person who put lunch meat in bubble packs.

Try the salad bar and look in the freezer case for Banquet, Stouffer's, Lean Cuisine, Michelina's entrees. You can snip them open or use your cast as a weight while you wrestle with the other hand.

Ask a friend or neighbor to stop by once in a while and open jars, replacing the lids gently so that you will be able to open them. The same goes for canned goods. Get them opened and then cover in the fridge so that you will not have to deal with the most awkward things. Repackaging in plastic containers with pop off lids helps, too.

Good luck with the recovery. Be sure to ask you doctor about some physical therapy when the cast comes off. It will help you get back into the swing of things faster.

Looks like a very nice brush indeed. I have been won over to brushes for dealing with hand washing. The one I am using now was 2/$1 at IKEA and it really works well.

FifeScotland, graham crackers were originally made with graham flour, a whole grain concoction from the 19th -century pure food movement and actually promoted to prevent the proliferation of impure thoughts in young men. I am NOT kidding. They are a favorite treat for kids these days. I think digestive biscuits tend to be slightly less sweet and would do well in this recipe. Speculaas sounds good, too. Ginger snaps?

I had to laugh when I saw the recipe because it is close to onee made with vanilla pudding and topped with chocolate. Nearly every Christmas a friend is given one of these by a well meaning lady. Friend then tries to bring it to Christmas dinner at friend number two's house and friend number two will not allow it into the house. I was there one year andoffered the dessert. Being a sweets freak, I accepted and, on leaving, found the parcel wrapped in plastic and under several inches of snow on the hood of my car because of the hostess' prohibition.

The lemon version would be just as greedily devoured atmy house!

sounds like you served it in the wrong context and that this cheese may indeed be meant for grating and garnish, rather than for crackers. As much as I like reggiano, I think it is a little hard to cut using the one-handed cocktail party technique.

Vegan key lime pie?

Please, let's just call it tofu lime pie or something more honest. You can't take the major ingredients out of something and have it the same. That's OK if that is what you want, but it is NOT key lime pie.

Did you use key limes or Persian limes?

I tried some herbs in large pots and found that they really like well drained soil and lots of sun. Wild herbs tend to grow well in rocky areas having poor soil and much sun, so imitate those conditions. Get a large enough pot that the 1" of dry soil on top makes sense and water well when you do water.

Also, if you are just starting, don't try to grow more than a few plants. That way you can have time to watch them grow and also keep your expense down.

You have answered your own question. Go for a small assortment of knives and a canvas roll for them. Remember the chef's knife should be as long as you can handle, probably 10", and that the 'fit' of the knife is crucial. You must also have a good stone and steel and learn how to use them.

Next investment has to be a cutting board, if you do not have one.

Happy cuts.
