What a classic piece! Originally designed in the 1860's I believe. I have a friend with one! I love it, it's simple, dark wood with a light neutral cushion.

Brilliant! Most pallets don't have such a reclaimed-barnwood-vibe to them, that one is a gem you were right to wait for the cab! And the red caster wheels, totally worth 50$ it POPS!

Wow, it's like heroin for your eyes! So many jaw dropping and inspired things here, the light board, the chalkboard!

I got really inspired off of a pic from one of the home tours and decided to DIY my own upholstered corner headboard. Having the L shaped headboard really makes shoving your bed into a corner a lot more socially acceptable!

Check it out if you want!

10 DIY Headboard Ideas

This is a good list but some things I can't live without and use all the time are missing, but wow it's such a great spring board for discussion. I'm proud of my tool kit I've developed over the trial and error process of DIYing my brains out.

Here is my list!

The Basics: 10 Must Have Essentials for a Small Space Toolkit

@ annabelvia - amazing tips girl! I'm loving it!
I'm moving into a small unit with a tiny galley kitchen, with only 2 tiny bits of counter space on either side of the sink. WHAT! So the small patch of carpet off the kitchen meant for a small dining table will now be used for a DIY kitchen bar (like an island but its not in the center of the kitchen so i guess its a bar). Using the 2x4 expedit as the island base means you have all of those neat cubby holes for storage, from wine bottle slots to cookbooks to extra pots and pans! And we've more than doubled out counter space - yeah we don't have table now but you can eat at the bar - in a small space you have to make some tough choices but its worth it. Here is an example of what it looks like from Ikea Hackers.

If you really want to take your time and do it slowly. Then some quick fixes right now could be as follows:
1. Cover the existing horrible wall paper with some tempaper: http://tempaperdesigns.com/
2. Go ahead and PAINT those cabinets something bright.
3. Put in a new backsplash for 50$ these are on clearance at Lowes: http://marketplace.diynetwork.com/shopdiy
4. Change out that cabinet hardware - i like Ikea's line, cheap and cool.
http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/categories/departments/kitchen/16298/
5. You can actually paint those appliances too! I know it sounds crazy but there was a great article on this site a couple of years ago and the metallic periwinkle paint made a world of difference on some appliances that looked like these. At this point you wont sell those so you've got nothing to lose.
6. New kitchen table and chairs
7. I would add a little island as well.

These are all very good well thought out responses too, great job everyone!

How funny, I was literally listing this exact thing out today. My top ten most universally helpful tools are:
1. tape measure
2. hammer
3. electric drill - with bits and screw heads
4. a variety of sizes and styles of screws (you will collect these over time anyway)
5. tack nails, when a screw just won't do
6. laser line level
7. stud finder
8. hot glue gun and sticks
9. heavy duty staple gun and staples
10. scissors, paper and fabric.

And whoever put a ladder on their list, bravo. good one. Also for the more hard core, power saw, sewing machine, and painting supplies most of which you can clean and recycle.

At first I thought, yikes cluttery, but I really took my time with each image and you know what.... it's a look. And I like it. A lot! Great job Faith, I especially agree with what she wrote in the advice field. All that with 750 square feet... well done.

I love this list. RIGHT ON! I was horrified (for real) when I first saw my boyfriend's apt, he had the mentality, "I'm saving for a house why should I waste my money to pimp this place out". UM NO EXCUSE YOU LIVED HERE FOR 8 YEARS ALREADY! It doesn't cost that much to invest in your own comfort. For 500$, spent on IKEA, Craigslist, paint and carpet cleaning the space is so much more enjoyable and he admits he is much happier being at home. Even his maintenance man complimented him on the dramatic makeover. Get in there and invest in your NOW!
