Storage in small apartments is a huge issue, so my first recommendation is maximize storage. A sectional will provide as much lounge seating as possible, while dividing up the different functions of the space (kitchen and adjacent bedroom).

I recommend dividing up the space in the bedroom as well. Add two bookcases to extend the closet space, and paint the back (most commercial bookcases provide fiber-board backs) to match the walls. Add a sconce for lighting over the bed and run the wiring hidden inside the bookcase.

A freestanding headboard, supported by the weight of the bed should be used to avoid the bookcases being knocked over by leaning on them.

I've blogged about your problem, made some drawings for you and some product recommendations. Take a look at the link below. Hope this helps!

With large scale patterns, I always recommend small scale or solids to coordinate. Avoid a second large scale pattern - it will fight. And for the love of pete don't buy the exact same pattern for your bed... SO boring.

Tablet PC's aren't for reading - sorry guys! Even that kindle fire isn't for reading in my opinion. You need either e-ink or REAL ink... major strain on the eyes otherwise. That back-lit display does a real number on me - headaches, eye strain, blurred vision. Either get a e-reader or keep your real book, skip the tablet. If you want a versatile mobile computer, buy a laptop with some power! Not an overwrought, under-powered, overpriced, branded, piece of e-waste.

Ugh, the Aeron is the WORST chair for women. I agreen with Swingncocoa. I sit in one at the office because I have no choice but go home every day with a back ache. They aren't designed for people who sit forward (everyone) use a keyboard tray (everyone) or have visual taste...

I'm obsessed with Domus. REALLY REALLY REALLY expensive, but awesome. http://www.amazon.com/Domus-1928-1999-Vols-Charlotte-Fiell/dp/3822830275/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1330462352&sr=1-1

Well you've got yourself a pretty complicated problem. I've addressed it in several ways on my blog (this was an interesting quandary for me), so check that out here: http://designindependence.blogspot.com/2012/02/baby-room-redesign.html

For those of you lazy on clicking links, generally here's what should happen. The crib will need to be immediately adjacent to the door. Normally I don't place a crib directly adjacent to doors, but with the layout of the windows, and the potential for baby-waking sunlight, it's the best bet. A small slipper chair or rocker, no bigger than 30"x30" should work nicely in the corner adjacent to both windows. A smallish dresser with changing station on top can go next to the blocked-out corner, between both doors.

I also highly recommend room black-out roman shades, mostly due to the radiator in this room. Drapery immediately adjacent to radiators is never a safe bet, and the room-darkening will be a blessing with the odds of your baby making it through the night going WAY up.

Stick to natural fabrics, furniture with no added urea formaldehyde, low or no-odor varnishes, etc... Keep in mind that re-purposing or buying used or antique is the greenest option by far, since it keeps things out of a landfill. There are plenty of pretty options out there, so I've suggested some ideas on the link.

Happy babyroom making! And thanks for the little project!
