Should I Redo This Mid-Century Nightstand? Good Questions

A portable floor model a/c unit! The actual unit does not hang out the window, which is nice, but you do still need to run a small duct from the window to the unit and have a way to catch the condensate drainage. Our unit's window piece is nice and thin, fits well and stays put. If you're willing to change windows everytime you move it, you can roll it around with you as you spend time in different rooms. Our master bedroom is in the now finished attic of our 1940's home - no heat, no a/c, but with our unit we are more than comfortable.

I agree that the bed should stay where it is, but rotate, for functionality purposes for when guests come. Also agree with pulling the couch off the wall (I can't stand couches against the wall in large enough spaces). If you pull it the couch off the wall closer to the tv, you then begin to create 3 zones past your kitchen: 1) living/tv area defined from back of couch and with the help of a rug 2) a 'corridor' behind the couch to the 3) bedroom area.

I LOVE the before chairs and would LOVE to have them in my home (I'm a sucker for dark brown furniture & oatmeal coloured furniture/blankets/etc - so together??? EEK!) So... I love the before. That said, what a well done job with the re-do. If I had only seen the new chairs I wouldn't think twice about loving them - but I can't help going back to the before pictures...

Nicole, I'm super interested in the career change (your home is lovely, too. the colour and texture sets are terrific) - I guess how you knew what to do to make starting your new career work... I'm struggling to 'find myself' career-wise since starting after grad school, but the thought of starting a business that would keep myself busy the way I love to be busy and make money doing it is terrifying. I'd love any insight you wouldn't mind sharing...

option 2 with a transom window towards the north - with or without glazing - that could be the whole length of the wall. Glazing would allow privacy. You could also just build a partial height wall that is a foot or so below the ceiling.

Suggestions for Location of Third Bedroom in Small Apartment? Good Questions

I just got married almost 2 weeks ago. Making a registry was just part of the 'to do' list and with a very traditional mom, I was lucky enough not to be required to put china and crystal on it. Our house is too small to fit the things we will actually use...My new husband and I are in the new minority of starting from scratch. I lived in an apartment on my own for a year (otherwise the roommate had everything) but don't cook so a pot and a pan and $30 utensil set from target was all I had. And a nice kettle. Between my apartment and the wedding, I had moved back in with my parents. Kyle came from a long, 'lived together' relationship but she took most of the stuff. We bought a house together before the wedding and besides a bed and my bff's hand me down couches, it was empty.

We are SO THANKFUL for nice sheets and towels and matching kitchen utensils and appliances that are our taste and colour options. And on a personal note, it has helped me with this huge transition of house and marriage into grown up land (we're both in our late 20's but after 2 degrees in university its a big jump :) ).

We were careful not to register for all expensive but did let loose and chose some indulgent items for those who like to do that. Also - I'm Canadien and he's American so we did register at 2 stores: one in each country for each side of the family. I've noticed lots of couples register at 2 or 3 stores, but I felt this was a great way to register at more than one store and not seem greedy or too excited to be registering. It just made sense. New Hubby also works at a store that we couldn't register at but need several items from (vacuum, microwave, etc) so we did find a way to ask for gift cards politely and that seemed to be a hit.

I think it looks great. And maybe its pathetic of me, but I would feel a HUGE sense of accomplishment just to get that corner done and modernized. The whole room probably looks better.

This is a cute studio! I would love it - except for the no counter space in the bathroom.

Place the head of the bed on the wall opposite the door into the room. Then you have the space along the angled wall for one of those clothing racks on coasters (i'm sorry i don't have the proper name) that would roll around a sales floor... I haven't had a dresser in a while - I bought the Ikea expidit 8 with holes and bought baskets for panties, bra, socks, tanks, tees - everything else on hangers. You can stand it up on the short end so its taller and takes up less floor space. Maybe at the end of the bathtub?

In the living/kitchen place the couch so you walk into the back of it when you come out of the bedroom. TV stand (assuming you have a TV :) ) on the wall infront. Coffee table between. The Ikea Expitdit 4 hole makes a great TV stand with storage. Ikea also has a great table that is a smallish square for 4 chairs then the ends pull out from the middle. I would place that infront of/in the middle of the tiny kitchen arrangement and that would also be my desk. (...Is my kitchen table/desk at home - will probably never own a desk in an office again. Always prefer to be infront on the TV working anyways.)

A cute bench by the door with maybe a coat rack above = cute 'landing strip' and you're set :)

Promise I don't work for Ikea - I just went into a small apartment with nothing and then bought a small house and had even less. Ikea was an affordable 1 stop shop - great for someone with no time and a tight budget.
