My mom absolutely hates sandwiches. Something about her eating them too often in her own childhood. But, my dad makes a MEAN fried meatloaf sandwich which I still request when I see the little brick leftover in their fridge. I mean seriously, so good.

I live in Chicago & am on the city water grid aka I get lake water. Buying a water filter won't do anything to get rid of the taste. It's already filtered by the time it comes into your house.

I LOVE Lefse. My dad is from the Skagen area of Denmark (which is the northern most point) & as such a lot of our families Danish recipes are for Norwegian food. We always eat these with cream poached salmon & dill. Yum.

I love that it's primer on the walls. I painted my entire kitchen, cabinets & all in 2 coats of white primer then went out of town so I put the doors back up without finishing it. Needless to say I've been living with it like that for the last 8 months. My mom always mentions how nice and fresh it looks & i'm always all shamed because I know she knows it isn't finished! Oh well! Live & let live!

These are great tips. I wish my house guest last weekend had followed ANY OF THEM. He requested a homemade meal, which I was more than willing to make, but about half way thru our meal decided it wasn't to his taste. He actually got up and went and got himself a bag of McDonalds. I've never been more offended in my life.

Also, don't assume that you should have access to the hosts computer.

they're pretty good in any recipe that calls for almost any berry. when i was growing up we used to bake them into muffins and a "summer cake". My brother and I also used to climb high into the branches and gorge ourselves. haha.

My mom always buttered our PB&J's on the side with the jam to keep it from leaking thru the bread if the sandwich happened to get smooshed in our backpacks. so yummy.

4th grade was the first time we got to cook at school. It was a pioneer unit and we made apple fritters. some kids made the batter, other peeled the apples, others chopped, and a few got to sprinkle them with powdered sugar after they came out of the oil. Mmmmm.

I agree with @fabricwench that steamed vegetables are always under cooked. & big whoop if there's some nutrient loss. You shouldn't be eating so few vegetables that you need to worry about that. It's the same way I feel about apples. People always complain that ALL THE NUTRIENTS ARE IN THE SKIN but I hate apple skin & always peel it away. I figure if you eat balanced enough else where you're not really missing out on that much from the minor loss.
