You should definitely consider pieces that you'll take with you when you leave. A great butcher block would make the most out of that room! I also have a beautiful baker's rack that I use for pretty storage that I love. I agree with the painting idea. I also love a new cabinet knob. A DIY roman shade on that window would also be great. I'm not sure what the other walls look like, but large scale inexpensive art also makes a huge difference.

Moscow mules!! They are delicious and refreshing with or with or without vodka and a snap to mix up since there's only 3 ingredients. Congrats on the marriage and best of luck!!

A big glass of water and two pain relievers before bed, then kombucha and coconut water and a carb-y, protein-filled breakfast in the morning.

It's the easiest thing ever and I've never met anyone who didn't go crazy over it-- mushroom and goat cheese haters included!

Sautee a shallot sliced into rings in a little olive oil on medium. Add 8 oz of chopped mushrooms (I like cremini just fine) and sautee until they give up their liquid. Season to taste with S&P. Cut a french baguette into rounds (1/2 in. thick) and toast in the oven in a bit of olive oil. When bread is toasted, top each round with a bit of chevre, the mushroom mixture and a few snips of green onions. Bright, buttery, savory perfection.

I'm a big fan of ignoring expiration dates on foods. If it doesn't smell bad or feel slimy, it's usually OK.

Also, (my totally non-FDA approved opinion) if it does make me sick... INSTANT INVOLUNTARY DIET! Win, win.

My rentals have never had a proper pantry. I love having bulk items, but when cabinets just aren't enough, I just make use of another closet and/or some open shelving. As long as you make it a point to have pretty bulk containers, it looks perfect!

I peel and grate the root to freeze it then I use a ziploc to form it into a cylinder shape. From there, I can snap off a piece or grate it into my recipe if I just need it to taste. Works like a charm!

A nice, very cool room (I like it around 66-69 degrees), two feather pillows, a down comforter, and a very good cuddle buddy :)

If that doesn't work, a 1/2 a benadryl under my tongue for a few minutes and a 30 minute TV show I've seen a million times.

I had the same thought as stationeryfiend! Please answer the question everyone is thinking-- are you going to keep the "Come and Take It" condom pic in the nursery? Because I feel like it's very misleading considering the new baby and all. :)

Seriously, I'm all for having creative kids, but a JOHN DERIAN?? Who has money to toss like that?? And I think it's a terrible idea to get children in the mindset that it's a-ok to draw on furniture. I could see that going terribly awry.

Totally agree with this! I have been a downstairs neighbor to a family with THREE small children and no regard for our sanity. I eventually moved out because I couldn't take it, but area rugs and a no-shoe (or slippers only!) rule is a must. Also, kids in an upstairs apartment are just not a good idea.

I am from New Orleans and was a resident during Hurricane Katrina. Hurricanes suck and they can be really scary. Sandy isn't so bad, though. It'll just be a lot of rain and some wind.

The only thing that I KNOW goes with hurricanes is Hurricanes! The classic N'Awlins cocktail. Everyone going through Sandy should be doing it drink in hand! It's the only way!

Growing up, we always had hurricane parties whenever we had to stay home from school because of a hurricane. Close friends and family would come over and we'd watch movies and play board games. I "missed" Hurricane Isaac this year. My family and friends live in Louisiana and I live in Atlanta now. It was strange because I actually felt a little left out. Forget the house projects and spend time with your loved ones! You won't regret that.

This is an age-old argument between my boyfriend and I. He prefers them broken, but to me it's bad form AND bad luck. It's just makes it feel like you're cutting up a child's food for easier handling because they aren't good at twisting the fork.
