@robotropolis - i hear you! i'm basically the same boat... i know i'm off topic now, but everyone says "oh just do what's best for you, and do it the way you want to, hey, we don't see family (long-distance) very often, it would be a nice reunion, and do it within your budget, you know you'll want a honeymoon and house..." and really, it just is expensive. i think these are the situations where people hopefully understand that it's not about getting gifts... it's about a mutual respect and good time. while i agree with you in principle, i have to laugh at a comparison to 1991... while inflation isn't CRAZY rampant ($1600 in 1991 = $2600 in 2011) i think it's important to realize that it's mostly the industry providers (sure, being allowed to...) that have raised prices so tremendously. where i live, even the simplest of venues or even parks cost quite a bit to utilize for anything like a wedding. i'd rather a quiet and unobtrusive relationship (hopefully still respectful) over a disingenuous one that makes me want to hide and avoid potential neighbors. that being said, i would return and probably initiate succinct and simple greetings... so... as long as you can find 3 large and properly grown trees all in proper placements, someone wants to climb all 3 trees before being able to rest, and everybody likes climbing rope ladders each time nature calls / it's time to cook / sleep / get supplies ... you're set.
