This is a terrible idea for the bags themselves, the straps will wear out. Not to mention fading if they are exposed to direct light. Put them in a dust bag and in the closet when not in use.

can someone explain why it's better to buy a budding plant than a flowering one? thanks.

wonderful. a really sophisticated room for a child, does not look like the result of a tight budget at all. i need nicole's help!

i also wondered where you eat, and i agree with the bed/living separation comments -- airy curtains would create a symbolic separation without blocking light.

i love the reading nook, and i like the placement of the artwork -- i have no idea why i keep commenting on this issue but the placement above teh sofa and above the bed was the first thing i noticed. the living room area overhead lighting is nice as well.

i favorited but there are a couple things that make me a bit hesitant. the dark grey chairs look too dark and clunky for such a small space, i think you would really gain by substituting something with a less blocky shape even if you stuck with gray. i also think the pink walls feels a bit much because it's not echoed (in that tone) , at least as far as the pictures show.

The architecture is interesting, photos don't really show any of the clever strategems the description claims, the living room ...something about the positioning of the art in tight spaces, the masks so close to the curtains, the little plants in cheap pots all by themselves, feels perfunctory to me, as if the owners haven't completely moved in. (Contrast to the dramatic use of plants and branches in Lily's also spare and modern entry)

Nice. Where did you get the kitchen table?

Uncluttered, modern, clean lines, limited palette -- and not remotely office-like!

It is really a visual treat, I particularly like the wall of greenery in the living room and the branches in the bedroom.

The couch is pretty and so is the green chair but it doesn't feel pulled together, particularly the placement of the artworks.

To be honest, it makes me think of a "before" photo in a magazine spread about how new curtains and some rearranging make the appealing elements of an apt really pop.

I don't think the issue is cluttered vs.clutter-free -- Caitlin's SF home was not cluttered but it did not look like an office.

This apt looks office-y partially because of the items, partially because of the rooms that they highlighted, partially because to some people (myself included) it lacks the particularilty and visual layering that characterizes an appealing domestic space as opposed to the neutrality of public space. Of course tastes differ but not finding this appealing isn't the same thing as liking messiness, clutter or dirt.

The space looks OK but I dont know what the benefit is of the first photo, it belongs in a family album rather than AT.

Lovely. (I think people comment on it not being their style to say they were swayed despite their preferences, it's a compliment!)

It's really an admirable example of subtle and neutral colors done right, so there is no feeling of blandness or being deprived of color.

The only thing I wonder about is how two people chat on that couch, it seems like it would be awkward, and there is no other seating near by except the bed. Perhaps at the dining table? It's interesting, I think many people would have split the two rooms into bedroom / living room rather than dining room / living+bedroom. Curious how this is working for you, as I have a similar size apt. Is there a photo of the kitchen?

Most of them don't strike me as small, but they are inspiring anyway. The second one is so refreshing and cool it makes me want to redo my apt in greens.

Feminine exuberance!

There is so much to like -- not just the paintings and the lamps but the tonal relationship of the gray sofa and the blue floral carpet, the wallpaper and tile in the husband's bathroom, the humor of the woman drinking above the bar cart, the wooden mannequin. I prefer the grown-up parts to the obviously parodic parts (Nixon, the ducks etc) but that's me.

How do you suggest more color in a rental, Melissa82?

A decoupage screen, a handpainted cabinet, a wedding bed with silk curtains, an Emma Gardner rug and a Manjit Bawa painting or three. I mean, since you're asking.

It's nice to see something not MCM, but I find myself wishing for more... salt. The coral handles are nice.

Floral prints are the antidote to Viagra IMHO.

Floral prints have always had associations with the erotic!

Someone tired of florals is tired of life, I say. i love them like a fat kid loves cake, though strangely not that keen on the photos here except the first one. Where are those pillows available?

Limit yourself to only a few precious objects to keep your bedroom clutter free.

I thought this was a site for small-space living? I would limit myself to a few precious objects if my bedroom wasn't also my library, craft room, exercise room, dressing room etc.

Is what makes them modern the fact that there is no fabric hanging from the frame?

Actually teh second picture made me think of Victorian/Edwardian campaign decor, all it needs is a man with a sharp moustache and jodhpurs.

I have a vintage dropleaf table as a dining table. With leaves down it is nicely compact. With leaves up, it just doesn't have the smoothness of a non-drop table, with all the minor frustrations that implies. I'm really looking for a non-drop to replace it with.,

The contrast between the more-or-less minimalist arrangement and the baroqueness of the vintage furnishings creates a sort of tension that I can't quite explain

Yes! And I love it. The cleanness and the lushness are in wonderful (enviable) tension.

I wish I could see a closeup of that interesting sculpture near the bar, and I love the open hselves nestled among the closed cabinets. The Hope poster next to the Clash -- funny.

I kind of see what Indy Jeff means too, and somehow the black dresser feels out of place to me. But on the other hand, finishing touches/editing can be aided by others, while no one can give you a personality if you don't have one (and you obviously do).
