Growing up my dad always would finish off the fruit around the pit, giving us the easier slices to eat. Now I end up doing it as my wife and daughter eat the easier pieces.

If you have a phone with a microSD card like a Galaxy S3, a microSD reader is a pretty useful thing to have. Once you remove the card from your phone and insert it in the reader it's (almost) the same as a usb drive: it can be smaller than a usb drive, you can get the data to your phone easily, and you can leave it empty.

There's a number of ways you could do this
- make the holes that the cords run throw a bit larger than the cords themselves, put knots in the cords and pull them through the holes, unless the beam was really heavy or the holes were too big this would hold it up
- same as above, but instead of a knot glue a stopper of some sort in the right spot on each cord and jam it inside the hole
- don't use a solid beam, use two long pieces and there are many ways to handle this

Seems unnecessarily expensive to put down hardwoods only to cover them up with area rugs. Just spend some of that extra money to get some higher quality carpet. As far as resale value, I've seen many high-end homes with carpet in the bedrooms but hardwood in the common areas and hallways.

Newer carpets have good warranties against wear and I think our Dyson can handle keeping it clean. Carpet is less likely to get disgusting when it's in a bedroom and you can take shoes off.
