Umm, is it just me or is obvious that tupperware has been serving this purpose for many years? Sure, Mason jars are cute, but I've been carrying heartier meals with me for quite some time now. Eat Like Royalty on the Road With Mason Jar Meals |

Personally I'm a big fan of brick painted white, either on the interior or exterior. I know it's a big commitment but personally I think white painted brick is sort of a timeless look. Painted and (Dare I Say?) Pretty Brick |

Successful people frequently have organized and non-cluttered households because they can afford to hire people to clean them. So let's just get that out of the way. Also, getting rid of a few rolls of wrapping paper or old towels may seem like nothing to a person with money, but quite the opposite for people who need to watch their spending. Which, by the way, is most people. Apartment Therapy On Why Not To Date a Caveman |

Great space! I'm a fan of floor and table lamps for every day, and the best thing ever is to have outlets in the floors, so you don't have to worry about where furniture is placed in relation to a light source. Plan for New Living Room Lighting? Good Questions |

Staging definitely is smoke and mirrors, but necessary for selling. Most potential buyers (people who probably don't read AT) have very little imagination when it comes to seeing what a house could be. That is the sad truth, but good for those of us who can see beyond the surface aesthetics if it means we can get a bargain on a place. Five Things I Learned About Real Estate From Reality TV |

I was astounded to find out that orange farmers treat the oranges to turn them, well, orange! Perfectly ripe oranges often have patches of green and yellow but of course most sellers believe people won't buy them becuase they'll think their unripe. Whatever Happened to Red Pistachios? |

Maybe it's because it's New York but $45 per hour does seem expensive, even with the on demand option. I don't know, but I never have a problem finding someone to come out within a day or two. Get Maid Service Review |

Someone above mentioned all the time it takes driving places. I guess part of it is a readjustment in how to run errands. Every summer I spend a couple of weeks up at a cottage in northern Michigan, with the nearest grocery store a good 40 minutes away. This reminds me of a rather funny episode in my building where my rude and creepy neighbor put out a tacky garden gnome in the courtyard, much to the dislike of most of the residents. The poor gnome and its 2 replacements were all "kidnapped" within mere hours of being put out. The neighbor eventually gave up, although not before he accusing me me multiple times. Despite my dislike of the gnome I was innocent. I later found out it was the quiet and sweet lady who usually played the role of peacemaker between the rude neighbor and others in the building. Wish this was something one could have more control over but it's hard. I bought a condo in a new building that was emptty, but talked to a couple of other people moving in, they were great. Then the people above me moved in and were utterly terrible. I knew it the minute I saw them moving in their stuff. The kids were completely out of control, up at all hours of the night and day, the husband blew up constantly at his wife and kids, and even made vague threats to people in the building. I tried to talk them several times about the noise (one time they set off my alarm!) but they refused to compromise in any capacity. I developed a sleeping disorder it was so bad. Because we were a new building we didn't have an association for me even to complain to. I shouldn't be glad about the demise of anyone's marriage but I was ecstatic when the couple divorced, the wife and kids moved out, and the husband eventually sold the place. If they hadn't I might've had to move. I love my condo but my quality of life was seriously compromised for too long. Neighbors absolutely can make or break a place. I rarely see or hear my new upstairs neighbor and for that reason alone I adore him. Considering Your Neighbors When You Choose a New Home |

As a childless person I've done both child-free and child-inclusive parties at my house. I recognize that I'm just never going to see certain friends if they can't bring their kids. I do my best to provide some kid-friendly food options, and scrounge up some toys and activities for them. And most of my friends are wonderful parents and their kids are a lot of fun. But far and away my biggest issue is when people bring kids uninvited. Just please ask first! Twice I've had people show up at my front door with a kid or baby at 8:00 or 9:00 PM and saying, "I couldn't find a babysitter" or "I just didn't want to leave them." And these same kids also went largely unsupervised by the parents. One kid broke a picture frame and a plate, and chased my normally easygoing cats, another kid would *not* stay away from the litterbox and ended up picking it up and spilling litter everywhere! I kept warning his mom, "Um, that's really not clean" but she was too busy socializing. He ended up screaming and crying at 11:00 from pure exhaustion while his mother was dancing. adfsarahjkl - FINALLY I find someone who's with me on keeping the toilet lid down! My family always did it that way and it wasn't until college that I realized keeping the lid up was a thing. I find it utterly gross, not to mention the potential for items to fall into the toilet goes up. I lost a few tootbrushes at my boyfriend's, until one day he lost his iPhone. He's now come around to my side of things and the lid is down. Strong Feelings about Bathroom Decor |

I think one of the things I've realized about making friends from the few times I've moved is that you might have to go through a phase where you have what I call "transitional" friends. You hang out with whoever might be halfway interesting and usually after about a year you've found at least one or two people you really click with. Maybe you even met them through the transitional friends. You might eventually scale back your time with some of the transitional friends and that's okay. You'll always be grateful to them, they're just not necessarily people who are meant to be your good friends. Be patient with yourself that it may take awhile to find that special platonic someone. 10 Tried & True Tips: How to Make New Friends in a New City |
