I found this post looking for noise solutions as both my roommate and I were woken up agai. At 6 AM by what sounds like shoe-wearing pacing (and pacing, and pacing) and I desperately wrote out what I hope is a poite and understood note and put it in my neighbours mailbox. I now live in an old duplex apartment building with hardwood floors with one neighbour above me and garage below. At first I was glad to be the bottom floor after the nerve-wracking ordeal my old roommate and I went through because of a new neighbour who moved in below us ran a business at home by european time zone and would bang on our ceiling if keys fell on the floor. He put in so many noise complaints that my roommate and I had to start recording every noise we made so that we would have counterargument if the problem had to go to tribunal! It was horrible walking around normally writing down everything you did and at what hour- we felt like we couldn't live- tiptoeing and whbispering was the only thing that made this downstairs guy happy. I think the majority of us in apartments are S.O.L because I could hear little things like his SNORING loud and clear through these non-insulated old creaky hardwood floors. I'M fairly certain I'M not allowed to alter the building in anyway but I will be talking to the supers shortly to see if there's anything to be done. Experience With Noise Absorbing Ceilings?
