sheree bea: Yes we left the handles off - we considered putting them back on, but decided we liked the simplicity.

glorified malcontent: When you let the paint cure for the specified amount of time it's surprisingly durable. Just make sure to properly clean, sand and prime! And yes, you can clean it with a wet sponge.

lhc,

Glad you like the post! However, I would not recommend removing painters tape while the paint is still wet, at least not with a project like this. Many factors contribute to peeling and bleeding (unclean surface, temperature, too-heavy coats, wrong kind of painter's tape, etc) but remove the tape while the paint is still wet and you may have a mess on your hands...literally! Always wait until paint is at least dry to the touch, I say.

Oh no! It appears the Grooveshark webstite is temporarily down (lucky us).

Continue to check back! In the meantime, keep suggesting music and we'll add it to the playlist to create the ultimate Holiday mix!

The specimen jar on the "welcome aboard" toilet holds a shark fetus, and we distressed the bathroom floors to achieve a kind of vintage steam room effect.

In terms of the square footage, we consulted a professional on the matter. Because the ceiling heights are less than 4.5ft in the crows nest (bed) and poop deck (closet above the bathroom), they aren't to be included in the square footage of additional "living areas" within the dwelling.

I'm still bummed our video didn't make it up! Check it out here: http://www.vimeo.com/1004730

Ahoy Readers!

Sandy and Andy here, Cap’ns of the S.S. Waverly. We are honored to be nominated and thrilled to represent the smallest space in the East! We realize we aren’t like the other entries and we are delighted to see so many readers have taken to our concept. Our apartment not only serves as a surprisingly comfortable and convenient home, but also a port of call for our equally over-the-top and inspired friends as they navigate the choppy seas of New York City. Our entry was very last minute, but we have something amazing in store you next! We are proud to represent the underdog and tickled to have shared our fanciful lifestyle on Apartment Therapy. Here’s to the little ship that could!
