I'm with SunnyBlue on the jewel tones. You should think about installing the sconces with some kind of wall medallion painted solid white so they stand out more against the wallpaper. The pattern is lovely!

Also, consider setting up a home bar area, where he could feel free to display the bottles you are currently using!

Maybe you can convince him to get a poster of the Captain Morgan logo, or a logo of a liquor he loves, and ditch the bottles. Used liquor bottles can attract bugs. (Just remind him that you can always make more!)

I think you'll come around on the flag. The Norwegian flag is beautiful and graphic. Remember - the Union Jack has been huge for awhile now, and it shares much of the same aesthetic. Do some searches of decor images with flags and I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

This room has been one of my favorites ever since the house tour! You go ahead and milk it in every contest, Rohde, and I'll vote for you every time!

Thank you for this post! I live in an 1800s Victorian house and our bedroom in particular has very aged and worn plaster walls. In some rooms it has worked to just paint the walls as normal, but I want to embrace the irregularity of the walls in the bedroom. Trying to make them look perfect would be working against the space. I want to do a really dark purple distressed wall. I think the key is to have more perfect, glossy pieces to contrast against the "dirty" walls so it doesn't just look like a hovel.

I also have a hallway where I started to scrape the paint off the walls. My intention was to sand and repaint, but scraping revealed layers and layers of beautiful old wallpaper from as far back as the 30's (when the addition was put on the house). I've kept it as-is and it looks lovely.

Hail wabi-sabi!

I am very much in favor of turquoise - that bedding is rather southwest looking so it would be perfect. Mock it up in MS paint if you're worried about how it will look, but I think with white walls it will be a lovely match.

I love this house. All of those woolly rugs...it makes it look like the rooms are perched on clouds. And I adore the stacked hides in the kitchen, and all of the large plants...This house is amazing.

I'm a visual artist and I think these are adorable. Sure, there could be more attention to disguising that it was a honey jar, but the idea is sound and you can save them from the landfill. This would make a great kids project.

I already loved this room because of your irreverent pattern mixing and fun colors, and then I saw you have the same framed insect print I do! You have very good taste :-)

I knew I was going to love this tour when I saw the Damian Hirst knockoff skull, and I wasn't disappointed. This house is AMAZING. It seems like the type of place you can come to many times and always be surprised by something.

The personality of the owner really shines, too - I love the comment about "eclectic" versus "opportunistic".

I think that luscious bedroom and gallery wall may have convinced me to paint a room neutral instead of colorful to let my artwork shine. It's very effective here.

This isn't as close as the Circus font, but Photo Lettering has some adorable vintage-inspired fonts you can customize with the right colors. You just pay for your typeset word, not the whole font.

You should get some colorful lampshades to balance out the color and pattern going on in the artwork and pillows. Pick a color that's in the pillows and/or artwork like red or steel blue or a graphic black and white pattern. Maybe a drum shade!

Try rearranging the artwork - personally, it bugs me when the tops of the pieces are all in a straight line. You might like it more in a different arrangement. AT has a lot of tutorials on how to do this without putting tons of holes in the wall. Just search for "hang a gallery wall".

You're on to something with the scarf! You should get a red throw blanket. When in doubt, try new pillows and throws. And try finding a pretty basket to corral your study clutter - you'd be amazed what a difference it can make, especially when it frees up more room on that end table for you to put fresh flowers.

YES! Love the call for thinking positive! Let's face it, there are so many styles in the universe. It's pretty rare to find a design photo that is EXACTLY your style. Why badmouth it? Style is relative.

Plus, how many of us are interior designers by trade? Most of us are total amateurs! Let's reward the effort!
