There's a mention of the stainless kitchen, but unless I missed it, there weren't any photos. What drives me crazy is not the "stuff," but that there are more than one image of the same vingette - close up v. artsy angle v. from a distance....

Cute doggy.

I'd suggest you put away the dishes in the rack before taking pictures next time. I know you don't have a lot of room for space, but my general impression is that the apartment is cluttered.

That said, it's admirable that you live on such a teeny space with a roommate.

i gave up on move-in condition. Basically it's a gut job in most of the rooms, but at least it's a decent size for the price and has a fantastic roofdeck, and 2 WICs. It's also only 2 blocks away from most trains is in a pretty exclusive neighborhood close to shops and restauarants.

I wholeheartedly agree with the whole layered lighting argument.

i just moved into a renovated bedroom ,and i'm trying to plan this very thing! I'm picturing my reading nook composed of a lounge chair like the Bertoia bird chair, about 4 feet from the upper left corner of the bed. and in the corner of the bedroom. I'm thinking of adding a platner end table next to it or a diy tree trunk table. and a cozy rug

Some of these are pricey! I bought a Masai Wool blanket from the tribesmen in Kenya. It was 14. Boy am i glad I got it - the colors are just spectacular.

i prefer the ottoman. i think the rug looks better as a wall hanging, although who wouldn't relish walking on the Queen's portrait?

Am finally living alone after nearly 2 decades of roomates. It feels fantastic - decorating how I want to decorate, not doing the dishes if i don't have time, and of course the silence and peace. I don't have a tv either, so it's abslutely quiet.

I am finally in the process of converting my first adult home into the stuff of my dreams - all at the ripe old age of 39. Lots of sweat equity and weekend evenings spent alone stripping, sanding, and painting. But it's worth it when you finally get to see something turn around. It's also equity building, which is truly awesome!

the one thing I've had to exercise is patience - i want to change out all my existing light fixtures as they are gawdawul ugly. But I'm waiting to find things that are absolutely perfect. One thing that helped me was to add little things that make a big impact. In my case it took MONTHS to get a bath renovated and bedroom done. Stuff like large flower arrangements in the apartment, and painting a door and wall panel a bright orange helped lift my spirits during the long haul.

i'm sorry but i just couldn't. Closet space is always a priority when apt searching. Not always so easy in NYC, but to me, it's a deal breaker. Better to forgo amenities - doorman, roofdeck, overall space, just to get sufficient storage.

I bought cherry blossoms at TJs too! but the first batch was done a few days later. I'm hoping this one will last me longer. The price is great (7.99) though.

you didn't capture the most interesting seating area- the one at the mouth of the Modern section - Per 92. Very organic wood pieces with a tribal bent.

Not sure why this made it as a house tour? The composition as a whole is nothing special although some of the vignettes have character. Art? more tactile things? Rugs, color, cohesion?

You have my respect for the spackle and sanding, however. I recently restored the 100 year old plaster walls in my brooklyn apt. It took many many painful months of stripping old paint, joint compound skim coating and much sanding.

I totally did this in my parents' house when i visited them over the holidays. I moved a recliner a litle bit towards the other seating and created a cozier sitting area. I took a side table from the parlor to the living room, filling up an empty wall area, while decluttering the parlor, and then added a small shelf which i refinished, into the living room corner to contain a clutter problem. It made them so happy!

Just yesterday, i painted my trim BM decorators' white. It is perfectly crisp, and works for me with the warm wood floor and low nyc winter light . Love it

i liked the before - is this a Haywood-wakefield piece? The handles were so art-deco elegant. Shame to mess with that.
