I liked the before better, it's too bad they didn't paint it white and lightly distress the edges... All kidding aside, beautiful job!! I can't even imagine how much work and time went into recovering that piece, I love that you even saved the original hardware.

As some have already pointed out, edible gold finishes have been around in the cake world for a while. If you use a paint sprayer (one specifically designed for edibles) you can get metallic finishes, this is more accessible for sure. But I'm with the others... a little goes a long way, and it seems to be more appealing used on cakes and desserts than tomatoes and pretzels (which really does look like silver poop).
