We also have a tree (South Bay), and one thing I do is put a couple, sliced, into my husband's morning oatmeal. Now out figs are all eaten and we're onto pineapple guavas. :)

We have a big bowl of pineapple guava on the counter from a friend's tree. What do you do with 'em? I've been adding to my husband's morning oatmeal, and he eats them plain, but I really can't find a lot to do with the things (and I dislike the perfume flavor, so I am no help, ha ha).

I do this all the time, ever since another time it was mentioned here -- no problem with this recycling because it has to add up the more people use passive cooking. I also do it with rice, but only the last 5 mins or so. I let the rice sit for a while after it'd be 'done' to be sure it's absorbed everything, and it works very well!

I like the passive cooking technique more, personally.
It is so easy, and it saves a lot of water and energy.

I bought a couple right away to keep handy for when I realize I need it on the fly. Not just to whip, but just whenever I have a "d'oh!" moment and realize I forgot to buy an ingredient, since cream is an 'only sometimes' here. I assumed it was more akin to a European product. I'd love to have more shelf stable dairy choices to stock my emergency preparedness kit or bring camping, really.

Good black forest ham and baby swiss on everything bagel with avocado, tomato, lettuce, mayo. I could not only have it as my only sandwich ever again. but pretty much everyday, too. :D

I have a cast iron pan I sometimes use at home for upside down cakes, but mainly use mine camping. Since my stove is one burner with one reasonably sized gas grill, it's my only pot or pan usually, except for the kettle. It's so nicely seasoned that it is utterly nonstick, and it cleans like a dream. The specific brand I have is Lodge Logic. It's widely available, I think.

I have the bunny/bear set and my daughter enjoys her special eggs once in a while in the lunchbox. Costco's organic brown eggs are just the right size.

Countertop, though when I used to be able to one-hand it, against the bowl edge, because to do that trick, you need a clean, deep crack. :)

I'd try to make a passing attempt to eat a portion and be polite. If it became a frequent thing that a certain host made inedible food (I have an ex sister in law who was the worst cook ever), I'd offer to bring something to contribute to the meal, and if a host kept trying to feed me the same dish of awfulness repeatedly over time, I might then explain politely that I am not a fan of (insert food group here) or just decline the invite. But a one-time thing? No, I'd be polite and deal with it.

I had to try toast with marmalade and cheddar after reading about it so much in the Larsson books. :) Not half bad, but not something I'd have daily.

I think they're a nice tradition for really special events, like weddings, silver anniversaries, graduations... but for non-landmark birthdays, BBQs, etc., I think electronic is the right way to go. It saves paper and a lot of other costs, for one thing. A lot of evite-like places have options to import to calendars which are convenient, and then with handheld devices you have your information portable in case you realize you do need directions after all. I guess I don't like buying and mailing future trash outside of Christmas cards, which I do like to hold in my hands.

As I mature, I realize it's the company and not their home I care about. I'd rather be in a shabby comfortable house hanging out with a friend than in a pristine and picturesque house where the people make me uncomfortable. Who cares about their aesthetic?

This is a unitasking tool, and I have a small kitchen, so I tend to shy away from unitaskers. BUT, my MIL gave me this, and I have since admitted to her that it rocks. My children love corn on the cob, but inevitably there is someone with a wiggly or lost tooth who needs it cut off, and yes, of course you can use a knife. But, this is safer, and it cuts just the right part off the kernel with ease and you can do it at the table.

I'd replace it when it dies... but it's like new after about 3 years.

buying tire chains, I took a photo of the appropriate area of my tire and took that into the store to show the auto parts store guy instead of trying to sound like I know squat about tires. It was very easy. :)

We don't live in an apartment and have a grill, but we also love the Griddler for when I don't want to go through all the hassle of cooking outdoors, like on a weeknight. It's kind of like the foreman grill when used as a two sided grill/panini press, and we love cooking with it open flat and the griddle plates on for Saturday pancakes.

I've been making this sauce for about 5 years. It's perfect with sausages and peppers/onions, as well as a great base in other recipes, since I always seem to have a couple of cups leftover. I do use twice the amount of tomatoes and 4 T of butter. It's not as rich, but we really enjoy it.

I've been using this method for a few months, ever since reading this post and thought I'd add my $0.02. It's been working really well. I cook pasta for 1-2 mins at a rolling boil, then cover and allow to sit on the burner until the timer beeps. I have an elec stovetop, and am not sure if that has anything to do with it. I also have been turning off the burner with 5-6 mins to go on rice lately, and it turns out nicely that way, too.
