Oooh i like this entry <almost> as much as i like the ideas you have for the prize money- if you win, can we get a backyard tour?!
Love the powder room, the stairs, the rebar, well, pretty much all of it.
What a happy-making home!

Is it really too much to ask that a submitted floor plan actually correspond with the space it is supposed to represent?

Favoriting this for that low profile room divider alone-that is fabulous!
Most entries this year seem to be just a bunch of cute stuff in a little space. This is one of very, very few entries that address the smallness of the space with deliberate and creative functional/aesthetic choices, that's worth a vote!

i did a double take on the 1000sf, it looks more like a 600sf basement apartment.
its definitely a singular vision, but it feels very claustrophobic.

Might we welcome you to the post-modern era, Pete?
Its a magical place where one can use a 'laptop' to turn any space into a workspace (Look and wonder! They are the small L-shaped flat objects in silver or white that appear on tables and desks in virtually every tour), we have things called 'ipods' with docks and speakers for listening to music, 'streaming' of TV and movies on computer which make TVs and stereos pretty unnecessary in a small space, and telephones go in pockets (you surely noticed the lack of telephone benches with your eagle eyes!).... can you imagine!!
Oh, it might not be what you call 'modern' but i am sure that you will enjoy it!

Those are some lovely bones you're working with!
The textile piece above the bed is gorgeous and i am a little ashamed of how much i like that brass and black bathroom, expected it to be really kitschy but i think- gulp- that it looks pretty darn cool!
Oh, and just like the US, most every Canadian is out of town for memorial day, we just call it the may long, or victoria day, or may two-four (cuz there's 24 beers in a case), depending on age and geography :-) Thanks for the tour!

Pivoting the stairs was simply genius. The new space has soul and flow and warmth and space; all good kitcheny things!
Kudos on all the hard work, hope you've had a chance to sit down, get into one of those growlers and enjoy!

Its a Hudson Bay blanket, a four point (indicated by the black stitching at the edge) meaning it is a double bed size. It seems to be folded in half and hanging over a rail (curtain rod?), and it looks fabulous!

this room is so 2010s slave trendy that it almost hurts (spot the himmeli, eames, case study, mouille lamp, pendleton, typewriter, ampersand, scandinavian ceramics, animal skins, all in one shot), however it does look very very lovely.

Except that here in Toronto, our compost "green bins" accept all but the cooking oil on this 'non-compostable' list as well as napkins/tissues/paper towels, and our recycling "blue bins" take all paper, juice and wax paper cartons.
Instead of discouraging composting and recycling, why not encourage people to check with local facilities to see what is acceptable in their area?

That's definitely a Texas-sized commitment to a look!
I couldn't live there (seriously, where do the 12+ pillows go when you're using the bed?), but I think I'd very much enjoy shopping this room :-)

You know le nordik is only a 20 min cab ride from downtown Ottawa, right? And they'll call a return cab for you while you change- so easy.

We sold our car when we moved to Toronto, and joined zipcar after a few months when we had accumulated an errand list long enough for it to make sense. Our 2012 ziptrips for errands, weekend trips, day trips out of town cost about the same as just our previous car's insurance alone. sweet!
I'd do what we usually do with a car for a day; weirdly located errands, a big grocery shop, and find a lunch place far from transit.

this place is seriously happy-making!
best use of typewriters as decor ever, love the joyful colorful energy of it all (especially that blue cross hatched wall piece and the way the couch and blue chair really up each other's game), and i really need to find one of those PRN mugs (fellow RN here, and i like the story of how you got the scroll even more than the piece itself, which is a lot!).

wait, aren't we supposed to DIScourage narcissism in our kids?
Although it is a great way to promote chastity; making out in a room covered in childhood pics or yourself and your brother would be absolutely mortifiying.

Which is not to say that the modernist cat and the kattbank are not lovely pieces, but most of the others still scream 'litter box', look cheap, are impractical (dogs plonk their turds on the ground, cats will valiantly dig to cover it, how's that pet loo going to work? the mungo and maud neither covers nor contains) and seem, well, GOOP level out of touch...

we bought a square lack table from ikea and i sewed a cover for it with a round porthole entrance. $7 and 90 minutes later, we have a custom kitty box that can be changed to suit any room or decor.
harumph.

I love that you're including Canadian content.
I hate that no-one on AT seems to have a clue. Vancouver is about as 'rough' as Seattle weather-wise, and its certainly nothing like the 'north pole' (from a post last week).
10 seconds googling will help combat the stereotype of the ignorant yank as much as that of Canada as a frozen tundra.
Would have loved some of these beauties waiting fro the LRT in Edmonton though!
