Favorited! Philly- my hometown! I'd like to see more photos of your bedroom and dining area, but I understand there's a photo limit. Julia, I'd actually really love to get in touch with you as I'll be moving back to Philly soon and will want to learn more about finding an apartment, neighborhoods, etc. If you're reading this, please email me or shoot me a message! :)

I like that bar-height table- it's such a good solution for extra counter space and a dining area. Where is that from?

These are great and such good ideas, but they look EXPENSIVE. I'd really like to see an article on how to use tables creatively and in a multi-purpose way. Like a counter-height table that can be used as an island and as a dining area and as a desk.

I'm 99% sure they're from Ikea. Look for HELMER on Ikea's site. She might've spray painted them.

I appreciate finding this article-- so many great tips for someone who's never done this before, especially the drawing-with-a-toothpick tip. And there are so many tips in the comments as well.

Ah the Expedit. I really can't get enough of them! They're a great and easy way to introduce a "high" element in a room. However, don't plan on moving them too often ;)

I love the clipboard grid idea - a great way to categorize and organize- and not have to poke holes through everything :)

Having differing tastes can be a strain, especially when it's REALLY important to one but not the other. And it's even worse when the other person can't visualize things!

This is a very topical post! I actually just 3D modeled my entire new house that we'll be moving into next week. Sketch-up is a godsend.
As far as those commenters looking for doors... If your room is 10x10, just stick in your doors where they are and rotate the furniture in your mind. These layouts are helpful to get the juices flowing, but aren't hard-and-fast! These layouts can also be used for rooms that are bigger but where the living space is confined to a 10x10 if it's an open plan or something like that.

I see some comments for oil based paint... while that will give you a really nice durable hard finish, it will STINK and take forever to try! I recommend trying something called Cabinet Coat (or something like that).. it'll give you the same hard finish but is latex-based. I used to work in a paint store, so I'm glad I can share my knowledge lurking in the back of my head ;)

That's a really nice combination. It can warm up any area with a cold-steel feel! Although I feel like the wood floor helps it a lot, which isn't always available :)

Honestly, I've purchased two iPads and ended up selling both on eBay because I used it so infrequently. The second time around (glutton for punishment) I actually used it a lot at work to take notes, but then for Christmas I got a new MacBook Air and my iPad was pushed to the side (and sold on eBay). I'd much rather use a laptop anyday because it's faster to do anything, and the Air makes that possible to do that because it's just as portable as the iPad. If you're on the fence and have some extra cash to splash, invest in a new Air (small one).

The box is a great idea! I find I'm the same way with the out of sight, out of mind thing. What I do for these types of things, too, is set a reminder for myself for the next morning (or just put everything away and make a to-do list digitally or on paper).
