I appreciate finding this article-- so many great tips for someone who's never done this before, especially the drawing-with-a-toothpick tip. And there are so many tips in the comments as well. Cake Decorating: 3 Tips for Writing Messages with Icing |

Ah the Expedit. I really can't get enough of them! They're a great and easy way to introduce a "high" element in a room. However, don't plan on moving them too often ;) High + Low Home Office in White & Navy Roommarks |

I see some comments for oil based paint... while that will give you a really nice durable hard finish, it will STINK and take forever to try! I recommend trying something called Cabinet Coat (or something like that).. it'll give you the same hard finish but is latex-based. I used to work in a paint store, so I'm glad I can share my knowledge lurking in the back of my head ;) How To Refinish Furniture in an Apartment? Good Questions |

That's a really nice combination. It can warm up any area with a cold-steel feel! Although I feel like the wood floor helps it a lot, which isn't always available :) Stainless Steel + Natural Mix in the Office Roomarks |

Honestly, I've purchased two iPads and ended up selling both on eBay because I used it so infrequently. The second time around (glutton for punishment) I actually used it a lot at work to take notes, but then for Christmas I got a new MacBook Air and my iPad was pushed to the side (and sold on eBay). I'd much rather use a laptop anyday because it's faster to do anything, and the Air makes that possible to do that because it's just as portable as the iPad. If you're on the fence and have some extra cash to splash, invest in a new Air (small one). Reader Survey: How Often Do You Use Your iPad? |

The box is a great idea! I find I'm the same way with the out of sight, out of mind thing. What I do for these types of things, too, is set a reminder for myself for the next morning (or just put everything away and make a to-do list digitally or on paper). 30 Day Organizing Challenge: 30 Days Later |

I know you don't want to put them in "boxes"... but the Alex drawer sets from Ikea are the perfect height for polish bottles. If you have a lot, you can store them by brand or color. I just re-organized using the tall Alex here http://www.jennstaz.com/2011/05/makeup-re-organization-and-collection/ but the short one would probably work best because it's made out of all shallow drawers. Wow, five months is ruthless! I've had many a hobby that I started - and spent a lot of time and money researching and buying the start-up things - and then didn't get around to actually doing the hobby. So, I've sold or given away these items, and then realize I regret it like 2 months later! 5 Questions: Deciding to Keep or Purge |

For the cords that I need to use daily, I have them run under my desk and near the opening I stick on those 3M Christmas light hooks (super tiny, clear, perfectly fits a USB cable). My camera USB cord is something I've always had trouble managing, but with this solution it's always floating right by where I need it. Also, I let the cord hang just enough so I have the perfect amount of give. Untangled & Organized: Creative Cord Control |
