I have to brace myself for the comments that repeat themselves every time this feature comes out. Lighten up.... be inspired, be innovative, be resourceful- no one here can speak for the "masses" of readership of AT- there are readers across the globe, spanning age, gender, culture and financial capabilities. If it doesn't work for you...move on to the next feature- as it may work for others. One Design, Two Budgets: Global Chic Bedroom |

A nice interpretation of the "traditional" translation of that concept. If anyone has ever watched that show on HGTV "Love it or LIst" it- you will see that most of the people (not all) but many say they need more space or outgrew their home...but really they are seeking to move away from their clutter and mess- and start fresh as opposed to clean up or clean out their existing home. It's sad and frustrating to watch. One Minute Tip: Live Within Your Means Apartment Therapy Videos |

This is certainly a beautiful room- but I'm not sure a compromise between pink and purple was a "design challenge"- especially for a 7 and 10 year olds room. The colors go quite easily together!? A Pink and Purple Bedroom to Delight Two Daughters Professional Project |

love this column. We individuals can't speak for what "most people" see as what is described as unrealistic or wasteful-that's pretty judgmental in my opinion. I see nothing wrong with a comparison of a 2K room and and 500 dollar room..one can look at the entire look- or just one piece, etc. One Design, Two Budgets: Modern Floral Bedroom |

Just jumped back from your blog- it's amazing. Those before pictures...wow, it's like walking back in time! The sideboard/buffet cabinet that you refinished in the dining room- beauuuutiful restoration and "save". It took some vision to see it's potential, nice. I can not believe how motivating it was to engaging an online challenge/project with the AT team and perfect (online) strangers/communicty and find it so motivating and inspirational. WOW! My house is better in every room-addressing sore spots and making everyone room more enjoyable. A nice blend of cleaning/ organizing / and just plain more aesthetically pleasing. Thanks So Much! This topic has made me a crazy person. In directed in the assignment, I enlarged one travel photo and had it framed. It looked so great- I did three more. Then decided to move all of my art around to make the right places for them So, this one assignment ended up being entire "reinstallation" of art all over my house! very happy! I bought three orchids on the first weekend assignment- so I cheated a little, but they are all still beautifully in bloom! I am a newbie to the Cure, and I'm hooked for Summer 2013!! Can't wait. Every room in my home is better- and it feels great. I think the only thing I didn't do, that is still on my list- is to attack my cords...sigh, and probably my kitchen could use bit more work- but it's definitely an improvement. My big project was an overhaul of our hideous laundry room- and it is clean, organized, repainted- and now has art hanging also! I have hung four enlarged travel photos, and have even gone beyond and done some of those nagging tasks...upgrading to a wireless printer, backstocking printer cartridges, backstocking light bulbs- the things that make me crazy when I am out!! I have followed an "individualized" version of the The Cure- and this particular task I took on a few weeks ago and it was especially energizing. There is still a little work in our hall closet, which is an extension of bathroom storage that I feel still needs a go through. good project. Love the Cure. My house is feeling so wonderful. I love the idea that many people have one night a week "unplugged". I think I will incorporate that into my household. Starting tonight. I think I will straighten my closet which looks like it threw up sweaters and jeans. Hope I come out alive. Day 11: Try a Media Fast Apartment Therapy January Cure |

I am loving this project (the whole Jan Cure). I have followed about 85% of it, a couple things didn't fit for me- but I just replaced it with other items on the list. My outbox is working, my landing strip is almost there (just searching for the perfect, much needed coat rack), new photos ready for hanging (it's been very inspiring- my travel pics look better than I had imagined they would in 8x10!!) and my horrendous laundry room got attacked with organization and cleaning this weekend. I even painted it!! I also filled all of my empty spice jars, and created more counter space in the kitchen by installing a magnetic knife holder to get rid of the huge, ugly knife block- why did it take me so long to do that!!!!! Yahoo. that's all I got to say. Bring it on. Day 10: Work on Your Goal Project Apartment Therapy January Cure |

what a silver lining after a horrible incident! I love that it's so lovely, not overdone...sometimes everyone wants things to look like a "magazine" or high end resort, where noone lives! This is warm, happy and very refined- nicely done. Tina's "Happy Place" Deck My Great Outdoors |

It's just beautiful. We also purchased a home in Oakland with a backyard with pink concrete pavers, a graded portion of the yard filled with oxalis (and mint!, while some people love it, it's very difficult to get rid of it), clay filled soil and no ability to get any machines in or out of the backyard, hence everything has to be done by hand. So, that being said...i feel your pain- but wow, looking at your yard- it's so wonderful. congratulations! Jane and Justin's Backyard Before & After My Great Outdoors |

I actually was surprised at the comments from the first post. I took away much more of the financial aspect of the article. I have read many articles trying to determine the "worth" of the household tasks, and frankly, in my experience- they are so inaccurate. My husband and I are two careers and two kids, a dog and a house. (We make almost exactly the same amount). We are lucky enough to be able to have help to do the majority of tasks outlined. Groceries, cooking, basic cleaning, kids to soccer/parties whatever. We call her a household assistant. The cost to hire someone to do this...in the san francisco bay area (which is a very expensive part of the country) is nowhere near the 90K in the article. Because of course you aren't hiring a culinary chef, professional maid service, limo driver (with car), etc. You are hiring general skills, none that take any education, really. Maturity, organization, safety, etc. You can also set expectations for performance for a person, and of course terminate them if they are not meeting them. Can't do that with a spouse- haha. I think the problem is that people want to quantify the value of someone who does things "with love" which of course, isn't possible. Home Ec., Pt. 2: A Balancing Act for Us All |
