Ditto. But I also only use my dishwasher as a drying rack, which means everything must be washed before it goes in.

My coconut oil generally becomes liquid at room temperature. Maybe that's how? :|

Probably won't work for most herbs. I had chives and mint growing in my relatively low light apartment (maybe 2 hours a day?) and they died pretty quickly. My new apartment has 6 to 8 hours of sunlight a day, so my basil is thriving!

IKEA has been coming out with some pretty good quality knives if you're wanting to keep it on the cheap. The SLITBAR, I think. It's done pretty good, compared to my high-end Shun knives, and didn't feel as heavy as German steel.

Their super-cheap chef knife CRACKED while I was cutting with it, so make sure you're getting the right one.

If you can only use freshly cooked rice, stick it in the fridge for a few hours before you use it. I

f I forget to make a pot the night before, I'll make a pot of rice in the morning, leave it in the cold until the evening for awesome fried rice.

There are some things that I've resigned myself to never liking, like fresh carrots or cilantro.

For brussel sprouts, try cutting them in half, and sautee-ing with bacon/bacon fat. Makes a world of difference than boiled/steamed.

Thanks for your suggestion! I'm always worried that I'd snap my knives in half when I cut up my squash. This is much easier.

I'm always the fullest when I have a bowl of white rice with a meal. Though, after moving away from my parents (where every meal was a rice cooker with 3.5 cups of rice!), I've learned to embrace different grains.

That being said, a bowl of white rice with a sunny-side egg, a piece of spam and a bit of sweetened soy sauce is the best comfort food this girl can ask for.

Unplug everything. Not only does it zap electricity needlessly, if you accidentally left something - say, a straightening iron - on, bad things can happen.

Learned this from a girl I know who now unplugs everything and throws it into a bathtub.
