Just because someone has a TV in the kitchen doesn't mean they have TVs all over the house. For instance, I hate TVs in bedrooms, but I like a TV in the kitchen-- if space allows. You can watch the morning news while preparing breakfast.

But the location of this TV makes no sense, for the reasons others have stated. My neck hurts just looking at it. If that's the only spot for it in that kitchen, I'd rather not put one in there at all.

Thanks for this. I don't want cable, but our current rabbit ears are such a pain, even though the reception is okay. Walking into an outstretched rabbit ear face-first isn't fun! Nice to know there are some less-clunky options.

LOL! My thoughts exactly. Right down to the style in which that first photo is shot-- reminds me of the magazine cover shoot in that episode.

Yes, what @lisamfb said! On the weekend, get there when the cafe' opens.

Since I need food to motivate me, I would add: Enjoy a cheap breakfast with free coffee refills. Then, with your list in hand, do your shopping and get out of there by 11 am.

@emilyryz My family members gave me registry gifts (at my shower which they insisted on throwing for me) AND cash (at my wedding). I think it's an Italian-American thing.

@ScuttledCuttle "I resent being expected to do it for acquaintances."
Then why are you going to the wedding?

I agree with you, though, that all the gift-giving works best in a community where what goes around comes around.

@AKK730 Go ahead and get them 2 water glasses! At least it's something they want. :) Personally, the items on our registry ranged from $5 to $500. I figured people would do what was best for them.

By the way, I hated the process of creating the registries (difficult-to-navigate websites; trying to discern the differences between products that seemed the same; looking up product reviews; having to choose alternate items because Macy's has decided to stop carrying half the stuff on my registry, etc.). But my family really wanted me to make one.

So, it really wasn't about me. My family asked for-- actually, demanded-- guidance. But, yes, @Alishalc_ I DO have gaudy picture frame/photo albums stashed away, because several people who don't know me very well felt confident enough to ignore the registry!

Finally, weddings are expensive and take a lot of work. If you are attending, the nice thing to do is bring a gift. Even if it's small. Some people didn't even get us a card.

I'm with Pearmelon. Aside from washing something I need to reuse, like a knife or strainer, or disposing of peels and containers, I like to concentrate on the task at hand. Unless all that's going on is a roast in the oven, or a pot of something long-simmering, I feel calmer focusing on cooking, instead of constantly switching between cooking and cleaning modes. (I have a small kitchen.) And I must say, I often detect judgment from the "clean as you go" camp. I had a former roommate who was preeettty self righteous about her "clean as you go" preference-- meanwhile her cooking primarily consisted of heating up frozen foods or preparing a boxed rice dish, so I don't feel she was really qualified to say! :) By the way, I do absolutely need to have my work area cleaned and cleared before I commence cooking (unlike said roommate). That's a different consideration entirely.
