The holding each other accountable is the very hardest part. Having an honest conversation about "how to disagree/hold accountable" is very important, otherwise feelings get hurt or one person ends up doing most of the work and feeling resentful.

Learning to sew can be one of the biggest cost savers. I've saved thousands over the years by making drapes, Roman Shades, pillows and slipcovers using sheets, table clothes, upholstery remnants and buying new fabric. (in St. Louis, Baker's Odds and Ends sells large Baker's furniture remnants that are just yummy and at great prices.) Additionally, I don't feel guilty when I move to a new place and decide to do things differently because my sunk costs are so little. Decent sewing machines come as cheaply as $300 these days and can save lots of money on decorating and clothing alterations (although I still let someone else shorten jacket sleeves).

Glad Pi asked the question as I'm moving to a new place and considering them too. Has anyone tried their lights for over paintings? Wondering about those too.

Our library has #5, the pink square chair. It's not comfortable at all, they are always empty. People sit on the floor instead of the chairs.

Living in the West Indies we saw lots of rooms painted in color up to 10" from the ceiling and then white above and on the ceiling. Made the rooms look huge, cool and bright.

I saved a bundle on my kitchen reno by doing the demo myself...never mind that I sent a sledge hammer out the window which added $300 for a full replacement.

Love the wood pieces and that while he has many things, it still looks light and open. Great job of adapting to the space given vs. waiting until one can have more.

Wonderful...the time spent on your books was worthwhile. (Can't imagine finding anything when they're organized only by color.) Manages to be both elegant and homey at one time. Congratulations!

Love it, and love the idea of the movable doors to cover the skylights...it is MN after all and there will be times that one wants to cover them due to summer evening light or to keep the place warmer.

Great idea and it will keep the floor underneath clean too (as long as it doesn't scratch it. Perhaps with a thin layer of something between to protect original floor and slip-proof the new cut out.

Agree with Ros, opening and closing abilities are important especially for those of us who live in climates that count on the R value of window coverings. That said, I'm all for interesting and innovative ways to hang curtains, they're all mostly easier and less expensive than the old fashioned rods.

This is a pied-a-terre for someone who doesn't have many/any "at-home" activities. Reminds me of a pod style hotel room. Someplace to come home and change clothes into your extremely limited wardrobe, pick up your laptop and go someplace with less sensory deprivation. Neat concept but it's a trailer that can't move or a boat cabin that can't sail away.

Boy, wonderful. Any kid would love this! Both my grandsons enjoy kitchen and cooking play and would like this as much as any little girl. (BTW, both my sons are way better cooks than I ever dreamed of being!)

A low cost material that can help the disabled in communities that are without money...great idea. Congratulations to someone who can do good in the world with something so available and low cost. I'm sure the people who now have chairs have something positive to say about them (although like Degerkas I have let them drift into my visual subconscious).

I think arranging books by color is a beautiful thing, BUT I find myself wondering if I have enough brain cells left to remember what color a book is when I want it. I generally arrange by author and genre so I can find things. Anybody have thoughts about finding their books when arranged by color? Does it work for a reader vs. a decorating strategy?
