I hate chevron and groan every time I see a piece of furniture on here done in it. Fabric or painted.

Also ombre. Looks like you dipped fabric in a chemical toilet. Can we finally done with ombre? Please?

We've had a rent raise twice? in 9 years. The apartment we had for 12 years only once. We must be doing something right.

3M command strips are the worst! I have had so many fails I can't even count. I've lost plates from frames over them coming down and taking them down with them. I've had glass from a frame break and ruin an expensive print. When they work they're great. When they don't. GR. And I always uses the heavy dutiest ones with reinforcements! $$$$

We have a thing in the lease about holes in the walls and I'm an art hoarder. I'm now very careful about what I use them with. I'd rather lose the security than my stuff at this point! Buyer beware!!

I've tried that and it's never worked. I'm really sensitive to heat. We sleep with a fan pointed directly at us year round and the air + fan in the summer. No way I could sleep without air blowing on me when it's stifling.

We have an old dresser with contact paper in the bottom. The husband's clothes really stink up the drawers when they sit for the season. Long sleeves in one drawer, short sleeves in a another. So at the beginning of the new season I have to take his shirts out and wash them separately with double detergent. And to get the stink out of the drawer itself I use a disinfectant spray like Lysol. I spray and wipe it out and then spray again and leave it to dry. Slip a dryer sheet in for good measure. Works for me!

No Ikea. Crappy shopping in general. The closest food store being 7 miles away. Convenience store...2 mi.

Dangerous country roads you can't walk on.

No food delivery.

Various breeds of hawks killing everything smaller than them right in front of you.

Skunk poop. Chipmunk poop. Bird poop. You will never want to walk outside without shoes. Or sit down in the grass without something under you.

Dead animals everywhere. In the road. In the grass. In the place where we store the garbage. On the porch!

Bugs, bugs, and more bugs. Spiders spin webs overnight. You never know when you'll be walking into or sticking your hand through one. Trapping a giant hairy spider running down the hall under a glass is fun. We are experts at catch and release.

When the power goes out, everything goes out. Even the water, being on a well. That means no flushing the toilet! And being fewer neighbors calling it in, it takes longer for it to come back on.

Same with the cable and internet. Fewer people calling to complain so they don't investigate as fast when there are problems.

You never know what you're going to have to touch next. Ew. What is that?

In the winter the snow plow is slow to get here.

The mailbox is far.

All that being said, I wouldn't trade it for the world!

We had a downstairs landlord with friends living with him that played music all night long. I said something to him and I think he was afraid of his friends. I slept with a pillow speaker and a noise machine until the lease was up. We wound up moving out. We landed a nice rental house with neighbors far away. I miss our little apartment but they can have it!

Fess Up: Have You Ever Painted A Rental Without Permission?

My mother did an accent wall with wallpaper in a place we rented when I was a kid. I think she painted, too? They had to take the wallpaper down and repaint.

In her apartment now she's painted throughout including a stencil border. The management has been in her apartment over the years and never said "boo". I would guess it wouldn't matter since they probably paint for every new tenant. She lives in a complex.

Many years ago I used them for cheap shelving. They are so heavy and hard to keep dust free. As Dogstargazer said, more cubbyholes to collect dust. If you bump against it...ouch.

The platform bed, I can just see myself scraping my feet on it. No way. And the weight/scratching the floor, too.

We live rural and I would never leave the doors open at night. We use air conditioning anyway. There is no "night breeze", as far as I can tell, that's as good as air conditioning.

I don't leave the doors open during the day either. Rarely the door open with the screen door locked. And when we're home our doors are always locked. I think it's crazy in this day and age to have your windows or doors unlocked.

I can see scraping my knee/knees the first day since it's not very deep and the wood looks rough. I like the design though.

Wow. Thanks for that info! My husband has been trying to sell me on one of those for years. I didn't want to lose floor space but I never thought of that drawback. I know when we sit on the porch near the back end of the living room air conditioner it's like sitting next to a heater.

There is lots of information out there that you sleep better in a cooler (and darker) room. We keep our bedroom like a meat locker with a window air conditioner and fan. We sleep so well in the summer, it's hard to give it up when November rolls around and we take it out! We sleep with the window cracked and fan on even in the dead of winter.

Since moving from the city 11 years ago I still miss living close to good shopping. Being within walking distance to a convenience store. We lived in a top floor apartment, no yard work.

What's nice about living in a single family home in the country is the seclusion and quiet. I have a washer and dryer in house. And with a basement and attic...plenty of storage.
