Time for Bed. Also by Mem Fox. A fav. for about 20 years. Reading it to the 2nd generation now. It is always the first book I read to a baby/child AND the last book every night 'till they are about 5. Sets the tone for bed time and they know that when it is read it really is Time for Bed. Another hint from this Grandma would be to read 1 book for each year of their age plus one.. eg babies get 2. Then they are not too over stimulated but do get a positive reading routine early. Mem herself says something like read a kid 3000 books before school and you will have a reader for life. She was my lecturer at College and I did this and even my very dyslexic child is a reader!

Don't know if you have it in USA but old fashioned saddle soap from equestrian shops is great on old leather. Made my very damaged, scratched and dry footstool /box new with a wash and good elbow grease polish. Have also used it on boots, shoes, belts etc Way cheaper than most other "specialist" products.

Having spent 5 months making up a bed each night I would say get a real bed but position it and dress it like a day bed. Think bolster and quality pillows etc etc. Unless you are a really organised team, a sofa bed ends up getting left out like a bed anyway and if you are like me, you will always get caught out with an untidy space when you don't want to be!

If you want to travel really well and REALLY light.
This may suit you even better... see packlesstravel.com
These nice USA based folk just stayed with us for several days in NZ.
Roger arrived with NOTHING except a jacket. And Kyanne with a small handbag sized bag. I thought they must have lost their bags. Am still in awe of their ingenuity and pack-less skills.

"Tidy house, tidy mind"... reminds me of an old boss who had this total thing about" tidy desk tidy mind." must have said it 20 times a day!!!!.. One day a very creative and productive college finally just snapped ... "empty desk- empty mind"

There is a mid point I am sure where we can still have nice things but not too many. Wish I could find it right now!
