Loving ngnerd's comment! And I have to agree.... I have two very small children and found a metal spoon in my boot yesterday... this is really the kind of disorganization that I am dealing with on a daily basis. At least the boots were on the boot tray at the time.

The Ultimate One-Month Moving Checklist: What to Do and When to Do It

We have a family tradition of dressing up, going to a local museum and asking a stranger to take a photo of us - typically near a well-decorated Christmas Tree. This takes care of the logistics of the photographer, the cost of the photographer, and the fact that I can get the Christmas cards ready and in the mail before our own tree goes up. This year we will be two adults and two kids, and it's worked for us... in my opinion, if you aren't having fun while getting the photo taken - why bother?

Losing weight may be work, but it's much more stressful if you're not feeling good about your weight everyday.

Burning Question for Parents: Do You Put Yourself in Your Holiday Photo Card?

1) Get a twin bed/mattress that is comfortable for you to sleep on. 2) Get a good upholstery shop to make a cover piece like the top piece of the photo that you posted so that you can put it on top when you have company over/are entertaining. 3) Have the upholstery shop use the same fabric to make you a fitted sheet(s) out of the same fabric/material over the mattress for when you have company over/are entertaining.

Find out which rooms/areas are the most noisy to them... and then invest in a nice thick area rug to muffle the noise. I had a similiar issue in grad school - university owned housing - the noisy area there was the main living room, not the bedrooms. You're going to have to work with them to try to get the sound proofing right.....

Assuming that you're allowed to paint - PAINT! Go for a bright accent color that will act like a large visual stripe (think vertical), to mark the two as separate spaces.

I don't think I'd go so far as to call it "the most interesting 90 minutes of my life," but it really was amazing how out of touch they were with their lifestyle, and then as the money was disappearing how the adults in the family could not truly understand and pare down the way most would. It was like the sinking a ship, you put people in the lifeboats, and let the pianos and possessions sink to the bottom. Priorities people!

Good call be on "super 'riches to rags' story", I can't say it better than that.

My children are 19 months apart in age. And I'm going to echo what the others said about keeping routines as normal as possible... the key is that you will always love them both, and that the older child doesn't feel any interruption in how life is... Our baby girl is now four (4) months old, and it has been VERY smooth. Our son knows that the baby is his, as a member of the family, and the only thing he's really had to learn is "Wait" when it comes to something that I have to help with.... While on maternity leave, I kept him at day care two (2) days a week (as opposed to his normal five), knowing that he'd be back at five (5) days when my leave was up. So while we weren't as punctual at drop off in the morning, I would wait until my husband got home from work to stay with the baby and I'd pick him up for a little extra "Mommy and me" time so that we could sing songs, and practice words etc before we got home. Every morning he makes a big fuss out of getting to hug her when he goes in her room, but it's a happy "Baby sister!" when I tell him to wait while I change her diaper before the hug. It's been great, and we are very very blessed.

For something unexpected that embraces that beautiful arch, install a roll-up blind that you would normally put on a window inside of the room, and get some wallpaper that looks like a view out a window and attach/adhere it to the blind so that you get the effect of a window from outside the room... you'll be able to push it aside to enter/exit and if you want to have your room open, all you have to do is put the blind up.
