I live in DC and actively discuss rental prices--they are expensive here! I usually say something like," Love your place! What do you pay, if you don't mind?"

I have only one Euro sham of the bedding featured here (it's the Arrosa pattern by Anthro) if anyone has another sham they'd be willing to sell--please let me know!

Jaclyn! Please respond:

My boyfriend and I are considering a similar DIY pipe shelf project for our rental. Did you ask about drilling into the floors? Or do you just plan to fill the holes? Curious as to what you did!

Are any of these temporary solutions for renters or are all these pretty permanent?

A lot of potential here. I really don't understand the logic behind all the random pieces of fabric.

@UrbanCricket: I (and I'm the question asker) don't think it's a weird question. I needed a dresser and I found on on CL. It was a good deal ($20!) and good quality (wood). The bones are good, but the finish is fug and I want to change that. Seems like a typical question to me.

@SALLYIGTG Thanks for pointing that out. It's definitely the pine version.

@SherryBinnh I don't understand. What is a "clear color" isn't that an oxymoron? Is that a type of paint? I'm a n00b!

This could not have come at a better time. I am moving into my first real place out after living in a college dorm for 4 years. Do I need 20,000 pens? NO! And they are easily replaceable! Seriously, thank you for these tips.

Definitely DVR. I have a 10 y/o sister who doesn't know life without it. One time I told her,"Kelly did you know that you used to not be able to pause TV?" And she was like,"NO WAY." So yea, that's something.

@CMCINNYC--Good point on the drinking thing! My parents were the same way and when I went to college I was WAY more tame when it came to drinking that my roommate who came from a super-strict household.

A "Dependency Dilemma": Will More Chores Help Kids Develop Independence?

I am 22 (recent college grad, living on her own) and am surprisingly independent even though my parents never overloaded me with chores.
I have never mowed a lawn, and I only started doing my own laundry with regularity when I was a senior in high school.
THAT SAID, I can cook, clean (I am a complete neat-freak, I used part of my first paycheck to buy a quality vacuum), and generally take care of myself. On the flipside, my sister is almost 21 and completely helpless.

Chores are helpful, but a lot of it comes with the general "free-range parenting" style that my parents adopted that work so well with me. All in all, who knows! I'm not a parent yet so we'll see what I'll be saying in 8 years!

Shoot. I meant to say "Like" to @michellem9's comment. I think these shades are ghastly.

NEVER check your jewelry is something that I've been taught and abide by. Really, you shouldn't check anything super-valuable. Not checking chargers is a good idea.

Black and white is great for babies! That's why mobiles come in black and white, because initially they can't see the full color palette.
