Now that my peas have started up the trellis, I'll be using the last batch I froze to whip up this amazing pea puree. It's delicious served warm or cold, and the combination of mint and garlic, while it sounds strange, makes this yummy. http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/aarti-sequeira/pea-puree-recipe/index.html

Plastic is a bad storage option for any liquid, esp. those with acids or oils, which draw out the chemicals (bad for health) and probably does affect the flavor. I've been searching for a glass bottle option and there are a few out there, though not the original formula.

Synchronicity!!! I harvested a huge bunch from the garden (like 30 min. ago), and came onto the site just now specifically for suggestions for how to use it beyond the pesto/tabouleh route and here I find this article! Thanks! I'm enjoying it chopped and sprinkled on a sardines-on-toast with onions openfaced sandwich as I read the suggestions. Yum.

I keep my two-layer tiffin in the car for unexpected to-go meals (esp. Chinese takeout), but when I need to slip a to-go container into my purse or tote for lunch/dinner out when I'm not driving, my flat stainless LunchBot is the perfect choice. At $12.95, bought locally on sale, it is a cheaper option as well. Regardless, any re-useable container that's not plastic is the healthier choice, for our bodies and the environment! Glad to see more of these coming out and being used!

Yogurt has another problem - commercial yogurRd are made by pouring the hot milk and culture into the plastic tub and letting it incubate. Hot liquid + plastic = chemicals leaching into your food. Make your own - it's definitely healthier!

Tiramusu! I learned this last fall at a cooking class in Rome, andthe authentic Italian version is surprisingly simple, though definitely a make ahead dish. A fruit galette is another good one, for when you need a dessert in 30 min.

Fortunately, the area I chose to contemplate was on my special projects list, so I know I'll be addressing it soon...the corner of my bedroom where I pile the extra pills at night (including my big reading bolster) and "store" my sewing maching, spare canvasses and craft tote. After putting away Christmas yesterday, I think I may be able to squeeze a few of those items into my one closet under the stairs. Now, if I can just figure out where to put the cat...Your kitty could be the twin of my own fuzzy one, right down to the "what are you doing NOW?" questioning look!

I needed storage for my small apartment as well, and purchased a platform bed from Ikea (Mandal, $400) which has four large storage drawers and just takes a mattress on top. Love the modern look, the roomy drawers, and the fact that the down-to-the-floor design means no dust bunnies under the bed!!!

An empty VCR tape case has been great for packing all this: camera charger & spare battery, 2 overseas plug adapters, mini Mag lite & 2 spare batteries, Gorillapod tripod, and a thumb drive! I slip a small map into the outside sleeve between the clear plastic & case so I have it handy for reference and the hard case gives me a good surface for writing on when on a train/bus.

I had the pleasure of staying here on a recent overnight stop in Amsterdam and it was clean, convenient, friendly and quirky. Have to say, though, that the lowest price rooms are just plain, with no artistic touches, unless you count an entirely white room with a colored tube fluorescent floor lamp (mine was read, which was a nod to A'dam's famous district, I guess).

Yes, lonibelle! Buy fresh, buy local, buy what's in season is my #1.

Dual Blade Pasta & Pastry Cutter from Williams-Sonoma

I just had a cooking class in Rome (Italy, not Georgia) yesterday from an Italian chef and he:
1. Used a large pot
2. Had plenty of salted water at a rolling boil
3. Did NOT use oil either in the water or on the pasta after it drained
FYI, the pasta was fresh (we had just made it) and cooked perfectly al dente. Never going back to dry, boxed pasta again!!!

Second the porcini, or mushroom, bullion. You can buy packs of cubes, very difficult to find here and they're great for homemade mushroom risotto, among many dishes.

Nothing. I completely agree with PAIGEP and GRIFFIN . I'd like to know where the OP got those toothbrushes, though, since I'm looking for a non-plastic version! And I won't be dipping mine in plastic, however, since it won't compost then. I find that using small bits of fabric ribbon is a great way to differentiate things like keys, wine glasses (ribbon stays on and goes in dishwasher), and toothbrushes when you need to identify by color/user.

I keep kosher salt and coarsely-ground pepper handy on the kitchen counter for cooking in two small ebony & bone bowls I bought in Kenya this April, and use either my fingers (if they're dry) or the matching spoon. Every time I reach for a pinch, I'm reminded of that wonderful trip, not to mention feeling just a little "cheffy". Salt & pepper grinders are on the table for mealtimes.
