Here are my three suggestions. Either strip the paint (do a test strip first, to check the colour of the tile underneath) and seal the brickwork; paint it white (I wouldn't suggest cream if you are going for a MCM look); cover the brickwork with lengths of plywood and use a clear lacquer or seal. I would strongly recommend avoiding using dark colours so the space doesn't feel as closed in. Makeover Ideas for Brown-Painted Fireplace? Good Questions |

That cart is amazing - I use it as storage for all the change/bath/health things for my 3 month old so it's all in one place and we can wheel it out of sight when visitors come over (we change him on a mat on the dining table). I've also seen it used without the wheels as bedside tables The 10 Best Kitchen Items To Buy at IKEA |

My friend's brother is a painter, and she had a similar problem when wanting to paint a rough brick exterior to her house. Based on his recommendation to her, you will need a thick fluffy sheepskin roller, and appropriate outdoor paint for the weather conditions in your area. How Do I Paint Rough-Hewn Cedar? My suggestions are: light grey paint on the walls, do NOT paint the trim - it's a historical architectural feature in your home that a potential buyer may want to keep in tact, scrub the entire kitchen clean. Maybe get someone to look at the gas line behind the stove, if it's inexpensive to recess it into the wall so you can move the stove back then definitely do that. Get rid of the moveable trolley, and clear the appliances off the breakfast nook and the clutter off the bench space. Paint the pole of the breakfast nook the same colour as the cabinetry, and maybe even paint the stools a brighter colour to pop against the white. Paint the flap in the door to match. Remove the current art you have above the breakfast bar and put up one larger picture - a landscape or something. How To Freshen Up This Kitchen in Preparation For Selling? Good Questions |

I'm extremely lucky that my parents and my in-laws get along so well and we all live within 30 minutes drive of each other. We usually do Christmas Eve with my Mum's family, where we alternate each year between my parents', my uncle and aunt's, and my Nana's, Christmas morning at my parents' to open presents, Christmas lunch at the in-laws' and then Christmas dinner at ours. This year though is going to be very interesting - I'm pregnant with my first, and due December 30, and my brother just got married (I invited his in-laws to last year's Christmas dinner). Definitely going to be a bit interesting since I've decided that I am not going to make any plans for the entirety of December! The Family Holiday Tap Dance |

My husband and I make decisions together, because it's not just my home, it's his too. Sure, there are things that I like that he doesn't and things that he likes that I don't, but we compromise and most of the time the decision we come to is better than either one of us thought it would turn out. You just have to approach things as a team and not try and work against one another. Who Makes Decorating Decisions in Your Home? |

I love the use of Skinny laMinx's fabric on this couch! I like that the shape of the couch is traditional but the fabric choice is is more modern, it's a great conversation piece and I would definitely keep it with that fabric rather than changing it to something boring later on. It's fun. Oh Dear! Before & After of An Unexpected Upholstery Project Design*Sponge |

While I'm sad to see the original bathroom go, commenters complaining about the renovation don't see in what state the bathroom was before. I'm planning to completely gut my MCM bathroom later this year (it has white ripple wall tiles, blue, green and white small floor tiles, a turquoise blue toilet and matching seagreen bath and basin) because the state of the bathroom is just disgusting and when it was originally installed it wasn't properly waterproofed, leading to damage to the wall. This is someone's home, and a home is meant to make you feel relaxed. That includes the bathroom! If you can't enjoy your bathroom in its current state, why wouldn't you renovate the space to something you would?! Sure, the owners could have renovated in a style to hark back to the age of the house but not everyone likes that and who are we to judge someone else's tastes? I agree with the book thing (books are meant to be read and enjoyed, not damaged and used to collect dust!) and Richard Shapiro, but I think it should also be expanded to not having a monotonous theme whichever style you go for. I am sick of the Belgian style light grey furniture and all the white wash furniture and those industrial style rooms that are so cold and lack any personality.
