I would go dark on the exterior. Either a dark brown or earthy charcoal grey. I'd also keep the windows dark, but would add a warm color on the door - orange or citrine. On the left side of the house, to the front door, I can see a pergola coming out to break up the very flat facade of that portion of the house. Very cool place.

You have such a blank slate here, so you can really add any color to this room depending on what your style is and where you want to go. I've read several other posts arguing paint vs rug. I'd start with the rug and coordinate with pillows to brighten things up. And you don't need to spend a lot - Ikea, West Elm and Cb2 have some really great budget friendly
rugs.

Love the FLOR idea posted above too!

I guess I'm in the minority here, but I love the taxidermy. I think it's part of what makes this home really interesting and a little wacky. I love the entire place. Cannot believe the kitchen and baths were totally redone. They look original in the best possible way. What a gem.

We're coming up on 12 years with our IKEA cabinets and I have to say that it's the best home improvement value to date. Aside from the sink cabinet showing some wear - we had a leak and it takes a regular beating - all the cabinets have held up remarkably well. So much so that when we're ready to update, we're going to keep the boxes and just change out the doors. I'll replace the sink box, but that's it. I am also dish obsessed which means the cabinets are packed and heavy. We've never had a problem with the boxes sagging or seams separating. I would highly recommend IKEA cabinets to anyone.

I think I like the before better. It looks more cohesive and finished. Although I do like some of the little changes you made like the slip covered chair and the globes (love those!), I think the space looked better with some color on the walls. Beautiful space either way though!

I have to say, I agree with many of the other posts. The house is amazing, but I couldn't get a sense of any of the rooms from these pictures. Everything I wanted to see was just at the edge of the shot. The red Chambers stove really pulled me in, so I was really disappointed not to see a full kitchen/dining shot.

I have to say, I think less is more here. I totally disagree with the posts recommending shutters. I don't think they're appropriate for the house and unless you buy the ugly vinyl prefab ones (which are an eyesore), they'll be costly too. Maybe a long window box under the front window and I do think some shrubs would be nice along this front wall as well. Adorable place. Good luck

I would paint it out and agree with the previous post that you should look for colors in your lamp shade. My first thought was red which would pick up on the lampshades and throw pillow, and would be a nice warm contrast to the cooler walls and painted dresser. Good luck!

O.K. you have lots of great suggestions, but I'm going to add my two cents any way! The way I see it, there are some pretty serious design styles competing with each other on that wall. Depending on which aspects you like, you need to choose which stay and which go. I personally would lose the heavy formal mantel and hood thingy. The mantel is beautiful, but it just clashes with the more modern stepped ceiling and glass shelving. I would also lose the red and go with a wall treatment that was more neutral, but maybe slightly textured or even patterned. But if you like the mantel and can't bare to see it go, paint out the wall so that it doesn't contrast so much and replace the glass shelves for wood, for a more traditional look. Good luck!

Hell yes! What a huge improvement. The mismatched paneling could not work in its natural wood state - too busy. You nailed the solution in painting it out all white. Great job.

Really loved the feel of your home. The whole space just looks and feels real. For some reason the corner stove struck a cord with me - very charming. Love the bed too. I have the same one!!

I was inspired a couple years ago by an Anthropologie dining table with a natural edge reclaimed wood top and iron base. It was selling for around $4,000. I ended up having one made with the help of wood and metal worker friends, along with local antique/salvage dealers who I bought the materials from. It's more beautiful than the inspiration piece and although it was still pricey, the money went to local businesses and craftsmen who I know. Much better!
