Yeah, the problem was when I was put away to "straighten" the apartment for the parents.

Ikea has fun cheap lighting that is very easy to install. Track or spots whatever. I made a fun art gallery and use dimmers to highlight art or create mood. it's a "private space" to the rooms, so have fun! Painting all those door frames is a pain, so pick your color carefully.

I just had an awesome Muphy bed installed! Great mattress that I chose, comfortable spacious and cheaper than anything at DWR. It was about the same price as most sleeper sofas.

Don't forget Goodwill and other big thrift stores. Found some awesome stuff there. Best part of Goodwill: they don't pull the good donations for dealers like some charity thrift stores.

Don't rush!!! Buy things that move you! Art, furniture, what have you. You will know if it moves you if you wait a few days and it is still on your mind. Of course if it's cheap, buy it.

Very very cool!
@maerkzurich: Why criticize the Ikea? Obviously, he didn't have an unlimited budget and it's hard to find contemporary, sleek stuff that is cheap. Great thing about that ikea stuff.....no guilt sending it off to Goodwill. This is Apt. Therapy not Elle Decor.

He's a student still, so cut the guy some slack!

I think they need more space, because there is a lot jumbled stuff on every surface. What was in that square glass container, leftovers? In ten years I see this as an episode of hoarders. But it's all very pretty jumble nonetheless.

So wonderful to see Latin American inspiration in home that is sophisticated and believable. I hope people can look to our neighbors to the south for unique art and design ideas.

Minimal to an extreme. I'd say a good start....but good minimalism generally has a focal point. $200 investment in a cool print or area rug should do the trick and tie it all together.

Set your price and go shopping. For me it's about $300.
Places to find beautiful things: Senior Class exhibitions, Bachelor of Fine Art exhibitions, Master of Fine Art exhibitions. Ask around.

You can frame anything. I have framed beautiful art paper and even framed this amazing wax paper I found in a market in Buenos Aires. It has a picture of a cow, and what cut of beef and the price. I bought the paper, not the meat, for 5 cents. Butcher thought I was crazy. People think it's the coolest piece of modern art.

Congrats, it's a huge challenge to keep a small space looking spacious and airy. If anybody noticed, his desk doubles as a dining table, hence the feeling that there might be a dining room "somewhere else". Great to make those chairs double as a seating area when they're not dinning chairs.

He's learned the trick to small space living, everything plays double duty and looks fantastic!

I give credit for the effort. I tried something similar.....didn't love before or after. Fortunately dressers don't really get noticed much.
