Yes, paint or whitewash for a more subtle effect. The walls, floor and fireplace offer no visual interest because they all blend together in color but clash in pattern. Should We Paint Paneling & Fireplace? Good Questions |

LOL how did you find this?? too funny! At the same time, I will say that I ENJOY decorating my home so it may seem a little styled but I do think about and plan how my space will look. That being said, I only use things that I really like/love and, as others have said, use things that have a purpose whether they are utilitarian or emotionally connected to me. In all honesty I'd be going against my impulse not to style my home, i lOVE doing it, i find it fun. Are You Overstyled? |

Um, ditto to Pi. I also agree to the "If you don't love it, gut it" argument and also, be sure to sell pieces to someone who does (because apparently there are a lot of people who are very sensitive to the "vintage" (ooo) pink tile. ;D (Sorry I wasn't more helpful : / ) Options For Pink Bathroom Tile? HA! This is hysterical, love it! Actually, if you have a chicken coop, why not hang your thrift store find to it?! Ha! Too funny, very entertaining and interesting. It almost looks like a Ralph Lauren ad, but with chickens instead of horses. Finally! A $100k Chicken Coop |

Hi! I also recommend neutral colors and remodeling the awning (see third link). The slanted roof is definitely not a problem, just another architectural element. Here are some inspirational pictures: Exterior Ideas for Brady Bunch Dream House? Good Questions |

Whhhaaaaa?! I can't believe so many people think this looks cheap! I think it looks great! Pier 1 or Crate and Barrel could easily sell this for $350. However, i do agree that the "$100 DIY" is misleading because I for one could not do a diy like this b/c I don't have all the necessary tools or experience. But, there are varying levels of DIYers out there and I tend to be on the low end of that scale. haha Make a 12-Foot Console Table for $100 Young House Love |

HA! @MISHKA what in the heck is the point of your comment that yellow and grey looks like Nike shorts?! Whaaat?! Yellow and grey is a wonderfully modern color combination that is in favor with many who prefer modern decorating styles. I think it looks pretty cool and may inspire others on the block to consider painting their homes for some fun. No need to be so conservative and keep things as they are. It's okay to be playful and have fun with your home. More power to you! Before & After: Erin's Painted House 110 + 2 |

Cool! Love to see the other non-commercial options that are out there. Will keep in mind for future reference ;) P.S. I too use dog gates on occasion anyway and I live in a contemporary-built home, it would be awesome to have a nice gate. Those metal, commercial ones really are cold and industrial feeling. Boo. Wow, you've received a ton of advice, so you probably don't need more, haha, but here goes...it's very acceptable and okay to put a piece of furniture in front of a doorway if that's what has to be done, I've seen it in a million places designed by professionals. If I were you, I would keep your couch where it is, just move it forward a little more, then put your two chairs parallel to it, so that the chairs and couch are perpendicular to the fireplace but face each other, make sense? In other words, when you enter the room from one entrance you will see the back of the two chairs - but that's okay. Also, put the small round table you have, between those two chairs. and keep the coffee table between the couch and the chairs, also perpendicular to the fireplace. Hmm, that's what I'd do anyway, but maybe you won't like it, play around with the furnitre. I think you can make it work. Living Room Layout Challenge: What Would You Do? |
