I don't have any children but I used to work with kids aged 3 - 6. The school where I worked had preschool classes, transition, and kindergarten. (Transition was for the students who, for various reasons, were not quite ready for kindergarten but would not have been challenged enough by preschool classes.) My two cents is this; your child's readiness has more to do with his/her individual personality than his/her age. What you teach at home will have more to do with a child's success than what they learn in school. Every student I ever had who excelled academically and socially had active, engaged parents.

Are you looking for a bank to write a loan? That can be difficult. It's a high risk project so you'd need a decent amount of your own equity so the bank knows that you're taking a risk too, not just asking them to. It would be helpful to have a quote done by a professional as to how much the restoration will cost before you go to the bank. Sometimes this can be done over the phone if you just want a rough estimate. Email/call a few restoration companies and let them know the square footage (don't forget the porches), exterior wall material, roof material, and condition (in this case, poor). You want these numbers for the bank and also for yourself so you can know the true cost of the project. The house is amazing and I can see the appeal!

Don't be too hard on the historic trusts, their staffs are stretched thin and restoration of private homes isn't really what they do. The Pennsylvania Historical & Museum Commission might be a better source for information on tax incentives. Are you planning to live there or rent/sell it because that will also change the tax credits available to you.

Because it's fun to experiment with colors in the garden! This is the same reason I'm drawn to colored crushed glass used instead of mulch... it pleases me!

Why do you feel the need to use a simple matter of mulch preference to assert your superior taste? Live and let live! You're sucking the fun out of playing in the dirt (or red mulch).

It looks lovely with the fresh paint but I would have kept the wallpaper in the living, dining, and guest rooms. AT needs a wallpaper appreciation post!

I've never been a fan of pink and brown together. I've also never liked using pops of the same color over and over. But in this apartment it looks cheerful and cozy. So maybe I should rethink some of my 'rules'.

I love my dark grey bedroom! While the crisp white bedding looks beautiful, we decided on something more colorful. I've found chartreuse and grey to be my new favorite color combination!

Not exactly white noise but I need the sound of people talking in order to fall asleep. I usually fall asleep to a DVD but talk radio will do. When I lived in Cairo on a busy street where people were out and about all night, I didn't need anything. I could fall asleep easily if I left the window open.
