Tip from my mother: she buys those orange paint buckets from Home Depot (or wherever) and stacks plates on top of each other in the bucket. One bucket can fill a lot and it's sturdier and more protective of the plates. She keeps her party plates this way. Great for moving, too. Although you'll have to have storage for the bucket later.

I think I have convinced my friends (who have a much better space for this sort of thing and are Italian) to throw one of these soon! Thanks for the wine tips!

Have you thought about making something less permanent? Like some decorative screens that you could use to partition a daybed off when you have guests? That way you don't have to permanently set anything up and mess up the flow of the room.

I love all of the love you all have been giving to Jeni Britton - she totally deserves it. She makes the best ice cream I've ever had, and her flavors are exciting and adventurous all the while being rooted in local flavors and foods. I just had two scoops last night! Yum!

I think the mummy thingies are kind of awesome. I can't believe how small your place is. I had no idea!

I have done something like that, but I just used an unlined spiral notebook from an artstore. I bought some photo squares that are adhesive to stick in ticket stubs and whatnot and polaroids I took along the way. Sort of a photo album/journal. I've done it twice for big trips and have loved the outcome.
