When I bought my house the family left a garage full of garbage. Good news is buried in that mess was an early 1900s oak paneled store counter, about 14 feet long. It inspired me to open my own little antique/vintage shop. In this picture you can see just the end of it. http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Vyk49fkzHZQ/T-j43yAD1KI/AAAAAAAAAlg/0Bpoiatampw/s1600/shop1.jpg
They also left me a bright yellow cone fireplace in the basement. It's in great shape, and I now use it as a display in my shop!

Wow, I'm not sure I'm brave enough to pair yellow with purple, red, or blue...grey sounds nice though!

So what direction should I go with my door if I have a yellow house?

The paint job is inspiring, and I would love to see more of that china cabinet in the before picture!

Love it! Love the natural oak! Love that it's not a paint it over again project!

I've been angling for a while now. At first it was because I was on the top floor and had many slanted ceilings. The angling there was very successful. Now at my new place I'm angling because I have radiators, which make it difficult to put things flush to the wall. This has not been nearly as successful, so I'm still playing around with it.

$ 2,500! Exactly what I was thinking! I got a nice set of old lockers from an antique store for 50 bucks, less than week later I found 3 more on the side of the road for $ 25 each.

Hi everyone, sorry I'm late to the conversation. I'm out in Worcester, just bought my first condo, then had pneumonia for over a month, and now finally my first Cure! Things are going pretty well, more has been done in the past 3 weeks than in the six months I've been here!

It's great to hear everyone elses' motivational stories, the great refrigerator re-do's and the pet fur issues, and everything else I can relate to!

While I'm curing I'm also training for my first Olympic distance triathlon that I'll be racing in June 6th as part of the Team in Training for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, so I get a little overwhelmed sometimes. I know I'm not gonna be able to get the whole condo done in the 12 weeks, but I'll be happy if I'm well on my way!

Good luck everyone, keep plugging along!
Linnea

Brad and Milan's homes look like they should be in a magazine, I'm so envious!

Cowbark, thanks so much for the compliments, I love my name (passed down from family), and I love my temporary spot to unwind (and so do the kitties)!

I wish I had done this, but I am such a pre-planner. I signed the initial docs for my condo at the end of March, but it was a foreclosure and it took an extra six months to close.

Finally at the end of September it became official, but by then I had already bought so much stuff, I'm still shuffling through boxes, and most of the stuff is past the return date so I'm stuck with it. Time for a yard sale!

Hi, I'm from Worcester. The best antique store in the area in my opinion is Northsidge Village Antiques, just 15 minutes away in Charlton. They are open Sat and Sun 11-4. They have a huge closing sale the weekend after Thanksgiving and then take a few months off to restock over the winter.

Here is there craigslist posting:

If you're not around on the weekends thrift stores may be the way to go, the Salvation Army on Cambridge Street may be your best bet for furniture, but it's hit or miss. If you do find anything though it will be very affordable!

Good luck!

I have two cats, and neither of them understand that they are not supposed to go on the kitchen table. I'm not home 8 hours a day so there's no way for me to stop it while I'm gone and then they must just get in the habit of doing it when I'm there. I've tried yelling, spraying water, slamming my hand on the table, nothing.

One of them also has a peculiar problem, he loves to chew on plastic. You wouldn't believe how much plastic you have in the house, we try to get rid of it or close it up but he still finds it. Plastic bags, diapers, food wrappers, he'll chew on anything he can get his hands on. He's quick, so if you turn your back for a second he's after it, and he'll search it out and find it in the most random places, including the trash! He has toys, so I don't know what else to do short of going minimalist.

I'm a trainer and I always take resistance bands on vacation with me. There are plenty of different exercises you can do with these, and they are cheap and very portable. Just search the net for routines and make sure you're doing everything correctly. You may want to hire a trainer just for a one on one session every couple of months, it will be well worth the investment. Combine bands with body weight exercises, cardio exercise, and just regular lifestyle changes that force you to get more exercise everyday, such as taking the stairs and meeting friends for a walk versus dinner, and you'll be golden.
