@MiklakMiklak - not really anger, more like frustration.

Did you link to the original site? The issues that the chairs had are far from insurmountable. Easy fixes. And they show the chairs and they looked really good, albeit needing a re-finish. I guess the thing that gets me most is that the chairs are probably oak and were worth saving.

I refinished an oak school chair last year, and I expect to have it forever. It needed some work, but its really nice now.

@thatkris - Let me be clearer for you then: It's a stupid mod to perfectly good and solid oak chairs. Chairs that could be used for another 40 years. And, as it turns out, the practice of using elevated bowl is also unhealthy for the dogs. So it's doubly stupid.

You still want to defend it?

I hate when people ruin perfectly good and serviceable furniture. I may not like painted furniture, but at least you still have a usable piece when done. They may as well have burned these chairs in a camp fire.

What a waste!

They took two old oak school chairs that look like they could have been easily refinished and used for another 40 years, and cut them up so their dog wouldn't have to bend over?

That's two less chairs in the world for people to use. Two more MDF chairs that will be made and sold by Walmart/Target/Ikea and then countless other MDF chairs to replace those when they break.

What is wrong with people? This isn't sustainability nor is it rational behavior. It's vanity projected on their dog.

Don't want your dog to bend over (and yes, I understand that as dogs get older they have a hard time eating and drinking)? Go get some old wood pallets and make a stand for your bowls. Don't ruin two beautiful solid oak chairs. At least when you're re-purposing those old wood pallets, you can feel better about yourself knowing that your recycling.

Geez!

Here are some variants:

Swap prosciutto with pancetta.
Toss in some green peas at the finish.
Brown and then cut up Italian sausage and simmer in the sauce until done.

Also, I always finish with cream and then remove from heat.

Good stuff otherwise!

Have fun

Love it. Color me jealous.

I don't believe in formal dinning rooms, and this kitchen has pushed all of my buttons. Nicely done!!

@LEPIDOPTERY - I understand your point, but why couldn't both survive? To me, it smacks of a cold-hearted business decision, and not a decision based on what the customers (i.e. readers) want. Gone is the cute, whimsical, folksy, hand-made feel of AT and say hello to the corporate brand. I understand that this is now a real business, It sucks when you lose a friend.

@PLEIOVN - Sometimes the nicest thing you can say to someone is that they're doing something wrong.

Average price of your "scavenger" items is $1,185. Doesn't sound much like a scavenger hunt to me. Seems more like high priced dealers paying to list stuff on your site.

Quit trying to fix stuff that isn't broken. Bring back the old scavenger.

Lastly - if you don't like negative comments, why do you bother allowing comments? I am sure you will delete this, like you have deleted other posts that are critical of your site.

@Rumagogo and @BrooklynJennie - If they treat the old Daily Scavenger like they did the redesign, your complaints will fall on deaf ears. They erased my posts from the first "new" scavenger link the other day because it was negative. I miss the old scavenger too.

@TAO_GENEVA I agree. I think if you're going to do something to modernize a piece (i.e. stained and painted, which I think is a fairly modern take) then Shabbi-fying the paint seems out of context.

A smooth paint job in gold, blue, sage or something that would compliment and existing color scheme would be very interesting.

Regardless, nice work and a very nice piece of furniture has been saved.

.PS AT - can we have more of these projects please??? KTHXBAI

I like the wood, not so much the dusty blue on the sides. The drawers look ok.

Oh, and it's about time you had a before/after piece AT. You've been seriously lacking these of late.
