I redid my kitchen last year and cook a lot. I went for the double oven which I use both of often. It sounds like you'd do much better with a double oven and save your money for something else that will inevitably come up during the reno process. Believe me...money just flies out the door at an alarming rate when construction is at hand.

I do but mostly just shorts and bathing suits. The rest I went through this winter and tossed out the bad stuff, gave away stuff that didn't suit me and left the rest. I'm sure I'll do it again soon because I have a hard time getting rid of things that I "might" wear but probably never will.

Renovating my kitchen was the most stressful year of my life. The planning stage wasn't too bad but actually doing it was crazy. The decisions are almost petrifying. So much to pick out and you can't just go out and buy new countertops if you decide you don't like them. Anyway, I chronicled my reno on my blog thehouseofy.blogspot.com. I am so pleased with the results but hope not to do it again any time soon! Good luck.

That is a beautiful house. I wouldn't even want to hazard a guess at how much it cost! It's really lovely. I love mission and craftsman furnishings.

I love things like this. There's no way I would be able to spend over 11K on that stuff so to find sources a little closer to my tiny budget is a great thing. Thanks!

I used to use an apron with pockets so that I could stash things in there while I hopped up and down the stairs. This, of course, did not help out with a cup of tea but other things could be carried back and forth that way. Not fun!

I'm a plant killer as well. I haven't had any for years except a holiday poinsettia which I have no problem tossing after the holidays. I used to have a great kitchen window for African violets and those were the only things that kept going. Now I buy cut flowers because I feel less guilty when I toss them. My Mom is the queen of green thumbs. She can grow anything. I seem to do better outside though!

I have a tangerine lip balm that I like but most of the lotions and candles are too much for me. The only candles I can stand are vanilla and maybe gingerbread. It's all on a sniff by sniff basis.

I think it looks lovely. And it's true that you can never have enough cabinets. I finished a major renovation in June and I never thought I would fill all of them up but I have. I love my kitchen. I'm in there all of the time. thehouseofy.blogspot.com

I love the look of these types of kitchens but for me it's just not practical. I'm messy and I don't want to have to clean open shelves off all the time. Plus, I don't like clutter on the counters and I know if I had no upper cabinets or open shelves, I'd have a mess on my hands. We redid our kitchen over the winter and I have tons of cabinets and I love them so I guess I'm not the target for this. To each his/her own.

With the exception of the first two that actually have a nook to put a chair in, I think it just looks out of place. Like somebody had an extra chair and just plunked it in the room. I would make a mess if I had one but my family room is right around the corner so I'd rather sit there!

Made this yesterday and it was great. I was so tired of trying to find a good yellow cake recipe that was moist and light and not cornbread texture. Finally! This is one to keep in the files. Plus the fact that it was really quick and easy was a bonus.

I'd try ebay as well. I have a wallpaper border in my dining room that got messed up during a renovation. I couldn't find it anywhere and then searched on ebay and got it for $3.99. You never know.

I have river white granite on my island. It's very pretty and when sealed it doesn't stain. I've had it for about a month and it looks beautiful. I chose honed absolute black for the perimeter and while I like the look it shows lots of water spots. The white shows nothing. It's awesome.

We just finished a kitchen renovation I bought a Grohe with a pull down sprayer. I really love it. It cost more but considering the faucet that we got rid of had to have tape on the spout so that water didn't spray out at you, I thought a little splurge was a good thing.

My dog is always right behind wherever I am in the kitchen. I can never turn around too fast because he's always there. He cleans up all of the things I drop...especially if they're carrots or peppers (his favorites).

We are at the very end of a 4 month renovation. It's long and costly but well worth it. Yours is lovely and bright. You did a great job. Whenever I stand back and look at mine I think it looks like I blew up a magazine picture and put it on the wall. My old kitchen was tiny and probably one of the ugliest things ever! Enjoy your lovely kitchen.

I am just days away from being done with a 4 month kitchen renovation! We put our kitchen in the basement (the dirty, yucky, unfinished basement). I had a microwave, outdoor grill, refrigerator, crock pot, electric skillet and a toaster oven that holds a 9 x 13 pan. I had a stainless steel work table that I had bought from Ikea a number of years ago that was a real life saver. We also have giant old sinks down there but I have to admit I used a lot of paper plates. I also have two kids so getting food on the table that everyone would eat was a bit of a challenge. I did find that you can cook pasta in the microwave. (Boil water, add pasta, boil some more). You can also make a white sauce for mac and cheese. Oh, and we only had one outlet and even with a power strip I could only use one appliance at a time or it would trip the breaker. It was like playing musical chairs with appliances but I cooked probably 6 nights a week for the past 4 months. I do have to say I never want to see my crock pot again. I did a couple posts on just this topic on my blog with ideas of what I made a lot of: www.thehouseofy.blogspot.com

I was so thrilled to put everything back in my new kitchen this weekend. My house still has white dust all over the place but it's almost done!

I have honed absolute black countertops and while they do show construction dust, it's not as big a deal as if they were not honed. I just can't wait to get in there and get them dirty. They've been staring me in the face for a week and I hope to get to try them out this weekend.

I am at the tail end of a kitchen renovation and I really was considering marble for the island but I knew it would make me nuts. I have a friend who has it and she is not happy with the spots and stains so I went with a light colored granite instead. I am getting carrara marble subway tiles for the backsplash along with a fancy picture frame with diamond cut tiles over the cooktop so at least I'll get some pretty marble there. Here's the link for pics and progress if you want a peek. thehouseofy.blogspot.com.
