@rtu, thanks for the link, I've bookmarked it for future projects.

The first three really look like putting rags to soak up water spilled on a carpet. Between the floor rags, the wet pages being dried on the clothes line, and the porcelain mushrooms being served for lunch - that's an eating nook I don't care for.

we've had the ikea chairs for at least two years and they are definitely well made. They're more comfortable than your average dining chair - the shape allows you to sort of rock back & forth.

Room & Board has something very similar to your rendition for about $500-$600 depending on the type of wood you want. The pedestal is shaped like the saarinen, except that it's in chrome. It definitely would be the easier approach at a comparable cost.

Does anyone know if Gus has an annual sale on their sofas/sectionals? I've been waiting for months patiently waiting for a sale, fearing that it'll start a few weeks after I order one at full price.

Congratulations on such a fantastic job. Besides, working hard, you obviously worked 'smart' with all the resources you had. Love that you made a pantry out of left-overs.

@annieh, when you keep the plant in a plastic pot, does the terracotta one get the patina that it does when you have the plant directly in the terracotta pots? That's part of the appeal of the pots. I have all my thicker leaved plants in terracotta pots, and they look better & better over time.

Love how the colors create this calm mood. It's like you're at the bottom of the sea, or aquarium (but alive). Has this room been featured before, with different walls & rug? It seems familiar, but it could just be another living room with similar Case Study furniture.

I'm just waiting for the Kitchen-Appliances-As-Storage fad to step in. Or the My-First-Car-As-A-Charming-Storage one. Or wait!!! Dressers-As-Storage... now that's an idea.

Very nice choices on fabrics! Another option is to make benches instead of using cabinets. It feels more open, you can move it around easily, and you get leg space under the bench. That's the route I went with my breakfast nook. The disadvantage is that I don't have extra storage space.

The suitcase by your bedside will also be perfect to store the last fad you bought into - yes, the 'Keep Calm and Carry On' poster.

you will really taste the sumac if you add it in the vinaigrette. In general, I think adds more flavor if you sprinkle it over the meat, rather than as seasoning before grilling.
I should give this a try though. Thanks!

I love it! I understand that if you need to renovate your basement or garage into an extra living space, you would want to brighten up the space. But for a media room, the dark walls, etc really work.

Having a roomba and using it every other day has the added benefit of leaving less junk on the floor.

Those big floor lamps as bedside lamps is kind of selfish unless there's only one person sleeping in the room.

I use plastic wrap to cover leftovers to keep in the fridge & every time I'd do it, I'd feel guilty. So on my last trip to India I brought back with me stainless steel plate-like things that's used for the exact same purpose. I wish I had a link of them to paste. They're really so convenient and come in all sizes from 3 inches in diameter to probably 2-3 feet.
If any of you have friends that visit India, you should ask them to get back some. The added benefit is that you can stack your bowls of leftover in the fridge too.

I don't know if it's the lighting or the photography, but I to me that in some of the spaces, the adjacent colors didn't coordinate well.
For example, the gorgeous white marble dining table doesn't seem to go well with the beige leather chairs. White, grey, black or colorful chairs would coordinate better. The same thing with the kitchen. Everything's neutral, but different tones/family of neutrals. And this is probably just me, but the sofas and chairs look like they were parts of different "sofa/loveseat/chair package". I mean they both are generic, big, bulky, plain colors, but slightly different shapes and material. I feel like they need to be the same, or then different, like the chair should be of a slimmer style or something.
I'm only nit-picking because Edyta is a professional designer with access to places like Merchantile Mart. Then again, maybe it's a result of a limited budget, or combining 2 households into one, etc.

There's just no excuse for coming up with something so unoriginal, especially for that price.
For bright & bold prints, I prefer what Ikea sells to this.

I saw the beige tiles and the exhaust fan in the first picture and knew this has to be from the Middle East (not sure if I guessed correctly). The After pictures are a great improvement from the before.

@melissaodesign - I think I've seen something like that at ikea (all white though).

Organizing by colors works very well for me too. Hanging all/most of your clothes not only makes them easier to find, it limits your shopping to only how many hangers your closet can hold.
