I upgraded to a Vitamix from a Black and Decker blender. I'm not sure of the model though. It takes twice as long as the vitamix for smoothies, but was probably in the $60-$70 dollar range. Comparing the two it was a good value.

I'm sorry about your luck with Lay-Z boy. I had a Lay-Z boy sofa for about 4 years before I sold it. It was comfortable and held up well, but my style changed.

Fabric can be crazy expensive so I understand how sofa prices can vary. A lot of local fabric and upholstery shops in my area can custom build anything you want from 2-3K. I prefer to stay under 1k, but could not justify 8k for a sofa.
