I can't say enough good things about USA Moving and Storage. I've used them 3 times over the years and recommended them to many friends - all of whom had great experiences. Apartment Therapy Chicago | MM Movers |

I second the parsnip comment. I don't know if it's a "secret" ingredient or not, but that's how my mom does it and that's how I do it! Apartment Therapy The Kitchn | What's the Secret to Good Matzo Ball Soup? |

I re-purposed an old, unused bath mat that was taking up space in my linen closet. It's one of those looped / shagged numbers, so it actually does a good job absorbing the wetness. I just throw it in the wash every couple of weeks. Apartment Therapy Boston | Good Questions: Solution for Messy Winter Boots? |

My neighbor used to be GREAT - even with his dog - but his girlfriend moved in a few weeks ago - she's the LOUDEST walker EVER! I don't understand why someone needs to stomp around the house like that all the time! Apartment Therapy Los Angeles | LA Survey: You Think Your Neighbor's Bad...? |

On a daily basis, my dining room is more of a place for storage / library. I have 2 bookcases similar to the "cutout" from West Elm, which allows on to be laid horizontally but still usable as shelving; the other stands up vertically. The provide a ton of storage, plus the long horizontal surface on the one laid on its side can double as a buffet / serving area on the rare occasion I actually "dine." About a year and a half ago I purchased custom shades (woven wood for the LR, wide wood slat blinds for the kitchen and a honeycomb shade for the BR) online from justblinds.com. My windows are pretty big (~40" wide and ~90" tall). I don't remember the per-window cost, but the whole thing was about $800 for 7 windows, which included the top-down / bottom-up control option on most of the shades. They'll send you free samples, the blinds arrived in about a week and a half, and measuring and installation was pretty simple (and I'm not very handy!). Much less than the $1000 price tag you mentioned. Apartment Therapy New York | Good Questions: Inexpensive Window Treatments? |

So many old places in Chicago have this tile ... yes, we love it but can never get it clean. When I had tile in similar condition, I tried flooding the floor with undiluted bleach and left it sitting for an hour. It did help to brighten it up, although it certainly was still far from perfect. Apartment Therapy Chicago | Good Questions: Tips for Cleaning Tile Grout? Chicago |

While Chicago's Blue Bag program is a failure, the "new" Blue Cart program is quite successful. You can recycle practically anything. I happen to live in one of the "pilot" neighborhoods and unfortunately it's going to take the city 3 more years to roll it out fully :( Apartment Therapy New York | Which Plastic Numbers Can You Recycle? I have the same problem kiljoywashere (stainless fridge won't hold magnets) but also enjoy the clutter-free-ness of it all. To make up for it, I have a small magnetic whiteboard that gives me the space to write notes and hang a small number of items. It forces we to edit frequently.
