I also thought, "plates on the wall" at first; then I thought, "random words on the wall?" I agree about separate rooms for separate functions. Thank you, Charlotte, for being a fellow loather of open floor plans! I suspect that the open floor plan movement was furthered by the construction of modern apartments, where there is a dearth of windows, with kitchens and bathrooms at the back of the units. I imagine the kitchens are open to allow light. Then there's the silly counter facing the kitchen, with the dining table right behind it - what the...? And the designers seem to think the sink has to be facing the living room, which messes up the work flow of the kitchen triangle, which in my mind should be refrigerator-sink-stove.

It looks to me like the space is about 3 feet square. If you need a desk, maybe a small one facing the window. If not, how about an adjunct to the closet, a mini-dressing room, a finishing room? Cover one wall with a big mirror, or a very shallow dresser or bookcase topped with a large mirror. Cover the wall opposite the mirror with hooks and hangers for jewelry and scarves. Your reflection would be surrounded by beauty and that lovely window view. You could put a storage ottoman under the window. No curtain, or a few chains of something sparkly. Add a small corner shelf for a small vase of flowers or aromatherapy, and you would start your day immersed in delight. Gosh, I think I'm talking myself into building one of these nooks!

I love your apartment! Very spacious-feeling for the square footage. Do you know what year your building was built? I agree about the separate living room; it makes your place civilized, along with the separate dining room and a window not only in the kitchen, but also the bath! (Sigh!) Very graceful home.

Bungalows are the best. Yours is beautifully done. It makes me happy.

My solution is to not have a TV.

What a hoot, 70 bucks for a drying rack! Does it make coffee? Access the internet? Summon angels?
