Definitely agree with this. We moved a year ago, and the search we did before buying our current apartment went basically like this: 1) see space 2) rationalize/justify with logic the immediate emotional response. In the end, we had two places to choose from and went with the less snazzy address and less appealing views because of a visceral response to location, layout, bones, and scale of the space. And I love it here!

We bought an apartment a couple of years ago where the previous owners had put in beautiful cabinetry and marble counters. It was all wonderful, high quality workmanship and materials so we only changed paint and wallpaper. The kitchen is beautiful. I want to kiss it every day. The owners had kept everything in mint condition, so we wound up keeping many of the fixtures etc that they had put in throughout the apartment. But the marble countertops in the kitchen are CRAZY.
They wear the memory of every wet cup or drip or spill that stayed a moment to long and countless tiny chips that hold years of out of reach dirt (and these guys were pristine!). I could polish the marble or some other expensive treatment but why? So I can be paranoid about every single new stain or chip that might occur? I don't recommend marble.

This is a reminder from a mother of a single 6-year-old that even when there is ONE child in their OWN room, they STILL go thru phases where they can't sleep, want
to sleep in their parents' bed, etc. So no matter what the sleeping arrangement, you will be dealing with this from time to time.

I bet if you sent a picture to a place called O'lampia
in NYC they could copy it. They make one that looks a lot like it and they do custom.

I think calendars nowadays function primarily as wall art. Because if you are not at home, and making plans, you cannot use the calendar. How did anyone, even before all this techno stuff, do that? Are we just out-of-home & on-the-go, as a culture, more than we used to be?

I am going to need serious help with this exact issue! I am about to move into a new apartment. Have wallpapered every single surface with carefully, thoughtfully (one might say obsessively) selected patterns.
I am looking forward to finally inviting friends
to a lovingly designed home. And also looking forward to finally repaying the favor of many playdates at my young daughter's friends homes. But...I have to admit...I don't want anyone to TOUCH ANYTHING!!!

I want to add another vote for J Pocker!
They framed an Hermes scarf for me beautifully! They can be pricey but you can trust them to do a good job. They are
also lovely to deal with.
