I got the sennheiser/adidas 680 sport earbuds. The little "wings" bothered my ears a little at first, but they're pretty comfy for an hour now, and they stay put!

You could even use it when cords aren't frayed, to prevent frays in known trouble spots.

Or to label cords that become confused. (How many times have I unplugged my keyboard instead of my iPad charging cable?)

Be careful if you use a can as a grease container. If you need to hold the can steady as you pour into it, use a pot holder. The heat from the grease will transfer right through the thin metal and maybe burn your hand.

I'd add one more: Make sure your trash/compost/recycling are all clearly labeled, next to each other, and in an easy to find place.

I just bought a Geek Desk, and love it. I find I'm more creative when working while standing up.

Built-ins seem like a great thing -- if you've got them.

Any guides on how to add them after the place is already built?

I've also seen some really narrow shelves designed for laundry rooms that might fit there.

If you do buy a "spice rack", don't store spices right next to the oven, where the heat will ruin them.

Next to a tall appliance or a wall, the gap might be the perfect place to stow a small stepladder, or a broom and/or mop.

I picked up a metal plate stand this weekend, and padded it with a little adhesive-backed felt. Total cost: $6.50
It fits great, but it feels precarious, like the least little bump could knock it over. I'd think the business card holder would have the same problem -- too high of a center of gravity.

I feel you left something else out: courtesy to your neighbors. Aim or shade your lights so they aren't glaring in your neighbor's windows. Especially if you feel you must leave them on all night!

I hear that the Nook's sharing is fairly limited: each book can only be shared once. I'd love to see real book sharing, but I can see how that would cut into Amazon's book sales. I'd be content with the option to rent books for perhaps $1 per book per month. (And if you keep a book 10 months, it switches to having bought the book.)

I don't have a printer. In the rare cases where I need to print something for personal use, I've printed stuff out at work. If that didn't work out, there's a FedEx/Kinko's down the block I could use.

MacBook Pro -- work, gaming, browsing
iPhone -- work, gaming, browsing, gps, (and occasionally a phone)
Kindle -- reading for work, learning, and fun

D40, Nintendo DS, Wii, XBox 360, PS3, TiVo, big TV, 1st gen iPod, and Shuffle all failed to make the cut.

Forget going green -- I love it just for the simple elegant lines and having one less cord to hide or trip over. But it drives me batty when you post these design concepts that never seem to turn into purchasable products.

Maybe you could do a round-up sometime of "Concepts we've featured that can now be purchased" with links to the stores and such?

If you're switching away from them because they're unsafe for you to use, is it really that great to donate them to someone else who will eat off them?

If you can donate them somewhere that will use them for non-food use, that's great. But recycling might be better than giving someone else the cancer you didn't want.

Why are you throwing it away? We use our bars of soap until they're so thin they're flexible. Then we stick them to the fresh new bar of soap and finish using them that way.

For our 2 people, 1 cat, 2 bed, 2 bath, 922 sq ft household, it's not about having enough space for stuff but about having enough space for activities. Early on we figured out that it was essential for my sanity to have a comfy chair for reading in a room separate from the TV. Now we're trying to figure out how to have the TV and his computer co-exist happily in the living room.

A friend used a similar product to help him stop smoking (after several other approaches failed). So maybe in the short term it's not perfectly healthy or green, but in the long term, it's got huge health, financial, and probably environmental benefits.

Pre-measured units of laundry detergent would have been awesome when I was in college. Tossing a couple of those in the hamper instead of the giant economy jug of detergent would have shaved a few pounds off a very heavy laundry basket.
