The room is really beautiful and full of interesting things. It seems to be straddling the line between museum and kids room though...I like room's that kids can be kids in...

If some day you sell and the new owners want them back to the wood then they can do that! I think it would look gorgeous painted! Besides, it's your house and it's you who should be happy with it- I would get them sprayed - I know that it can be done in a durable finish.
Maybe contact an interior design firm in your area to find out who to go to.

Who cares if something is "done" or not?!
Being too aware of that is as boring as much as being overly predictable.
I say give it a whirl if it excites you - if you are like most people on here - your walls will be different in a year or two (or sooner) so have fun with it.
Glad to notice you haven't made any snarly comebacks -Good for you.

Love the light cast by the pendant! Anyone know of anything similar I could get?

I agree with all of the above comments. My first thought was "too much brown" but moving the sofa to the opposite wall would help. And a landing strip with a mirror above and maybe a colourful bowl to drop keys etc into would be nice (and would tie into the swallowfield print) I think the coffee table should go or at least get an overhaul with some high gloss spray paint and maybe a wooden tray or something for the top of it. Flowers are also a nice boost. It woud really benefit from some personalizing.

There are some really nice light greys out there and some are very warm. Also consider what else you have in the room i.e. colour in furniture, art etc and what kind of light the room gets. I've always found that going to the paint store and bring home a bunch of those sample cards is helpful. Maybe get some sample cans of paint and try it in different corners.
