The World's Ugliest Condo: Scope of Work & Budget Renovation Diary

to "The best attachment is usually no attachment. If you wish to send an attachment, ask first", i would add the following :
DO NOT ATTACH IMAGE IN YOUR SIGNATURE. aka your sh** logo.
If you're a kind of guy used to receive images via mails from your client (like… graphic designer), you really appreciate seeing only the concerned attachments.

Adding also :
please get loose of that stupid eco-related sentence "please only print this email if you need it ~".
Keep. Your. Mail. Clean.

Thank you ! ;-)

"Is it OK to ask people to not snap pics and post photos to Facebook?"
Lol.
It sounds a question asked at Yahoo Q&A.
And my answer will be: who the f** do you think you are? Some kind of museum? High-end art gallery?!
Nowadays, taking shots is common behaviour, wherever you are, and it should be taken as just taking "visual notes" (despite museums thinking), while a pro photographer has been hired or not. No, casual shooters won't make a living with what they shooted in the museums, and no, your "friends" won't never make fun of you or your relatives publishing "unauthorized photos" on Fb or spoil the "public image" of your apartment.

But :
1. It's common etiquette, i think, to ask, at some point in the process, if there's no problem with posting photos of someone on the internet, Fb or not. So i think that if your friend come to post shoots with recognizable faces, they should hit some mail to everybody saying : "i've posted shots, if you feel you don't want to be publicized, let me know, i'll take them off pronto."

2. If you want to "control" something, whatever the subject, one good thing is to make some sort of "passive protection" with basic or creative … tricks.
Examples :
• warn everyone a pro shooter has been hired, and add some friendly line saying: "enjoy the party, don't stress missing any shoot since i've planned a back up ; give yourself a rest, and enjoy the beverage, the talks, the dinner, more than your hipstamatic."
• warn everyone also that the shoots will be immediately available online, on a password protected website (does flickr do it? i guess there is some sort of protection), and give the password in the invitation card, and be sure, really, that the shoots will be available the day after.
• additionally, plan yourself to publish some "official" shoots on your Fb page, with a link to the complete album.
• if you fear something about the everyday home decor, hide stuff. Close personal places (bedroom, home office…)
• maybe you can turn a "disavantage to an advantage", launching some photo contest for example, with asking people (if you're really into asking them something) to make special "photos" reporting the "mood" of the party more than the people in it.

Really, don't spoil your time in the party asking your friend not to shoot.
Et voilà!

Sneak Peek 1: The Big Book of Small, Cool Spaces
12/20/11 7:20 AM

Hi
A few remarks and questions:
• The window is "high". And it appears to me a bit weird to put a sofa by this high window…
• But on the contrary, putting there the dining table will put it quite far from the kitchen…
• The entrance door is harsh. Very "visible". I would consider make it disappear by painting it white. Keeping black plinth.
• Do you need all these sofas ? Do you often experiment social gatherings at your place with about 5 people or more ? "often" = at least once in a week.
• Corner sofas are usually very massive. I would suggest to use them only on big surfaces. Which is not really your case.
• Due to the narrow size, maybe focus only on double-seat sofas (loveseats) with feets (keep it light, not big square)
• If you're in mid century design style, look at what she has done tinyurl.com/dynrew2
• Can you hang out of the window ? If yes, then you must keep this area free. If not, you can put things below it, why not not-too-deep book shelves.
• Do you have a tv set ? flat tv or "regular/tube" tv ? Flat is better…
• Coffee table: use one with wheels. In such a space, you have to be able to move things quickly, without effort.
• For versatile seatings, think about stools. Tam-tam stools are a classic, even if they are plastics.
• Maybe you will have to think about a divider between the living room and the kitchen. Soft/fabrics dividers, or curtains. Stuff like that tinyurl.com/cpalcow
• Do you need 4 chairs at the dining table ?
• Lightings. Floor lamps, low lamps, at corners. At least at the four corners.
• Plants : no big stuff like credenza, more single planters…

Living Room Furniture Layout Help?
Good Questions

12/16/11 11:50 AM

I'm sorry, but really, every Ikea furniture does not match to every kind of rooms…
Some thoughts :
• Keep it light, get rid of the massive Ikea stuff if you can
• If you're really into Expedit, maybe try to buy some 1x5 storages to put under the windows ?
• What color is your Expedit ? (this one ? http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/10103093/#/10103093) black or white ? let's pray it's white…
• can you place the sofa facing the double window ? with the fireplace at its left ? So that you could lie on the left (head close to the fireplace) to watch tv, or on the right (head to the expedit) to watch the fire.
• is the fireplace functional ? (it seems not…)
• how big is your sofa ? what kind of design ?
• if the fireplace is not functional, but you still think it's worth the view (and yes, it's pretty), why not putting the tv before the fireplace ? i think i would consider painting the firebox either in white to match the fireplace, or in black to match the tv set… and probably off-center the tv set (centered stuff is alway a bit… boring).
