Love this idea! Wouldn't the point, though, be to have bizarre and pretentious food? Subbing more standard stuff takes away the American Psycho-ness, at least in my mind.

Man, @marmite and @whiteforest, how do you feel about schmeer if that word bugs you? Now I'm suddenly hungry for both risotto AND cream cheese. Excellent tip!

I read this post in my feed reader just after I wrapped some defrosting dough (for pizza) in my electric blanket. Hah.

Ah dang. I was kinda excited/horrified about a Kitchn-sanctioned article about foie gras made from people.

Hahaha, yay! Mine caused the most controversy (I said MSG in the original post). Mostly I was joking because I knew it would push some people's buttons, but not really joking, because I do use MSG occasionally when cooking for myself.

For what it's worth, I do not have any adverse reactions to it, and would not serve MSG-y food to anyone else without warning them first, of course.

Brandade (as suggested above) is delicious! Highly recommend that for an appetizer.

MSG. I know, but it makes certain delicious things SO MUCH MORE DELICIOUS.

I've recently discovered that using paper filters reduces the "bad" cholesterol when making coffee...if that helps anyone decide to stick to paper! http://www.texasmedicalcenter.org/root/en/TMCServices/News/2007/07-15/Paper+Filters+Reduce+Cholesterol.htm

The bagel thing you posted is going to make me have a seizure. Being from the East coast and living in the West, I'm disgusted by non-chewy, non-dense bagels, which seem to be the only sort I can find out here. I dream of NYC bagels on a regular basis. Boiled bagels for the win! Everything else is just bread. If I wanted bread, I would eat bread. I want a bagel.

Every year I have a food "project," in which I force myself to love a food I previously disliked and avoided. I highly recommend these projects to anyone!

Liking bleu cheese was an early project, but I've since moved on to things like mushrooms, crab, kale, and raw oysters.

This year's project was supposed to be raw celery, but I've discovered that I'm allergic...my whole throat and face goes numb if I eat more than a stick. Which probably explains why I don't like it.

Ever since the bleu cheese project, though, I have an unhealthy love of all things cheese. No, wait, I don't love smoked cheeses (but I'll still eat them if it's my only cheese option).

@adventurat I've seen avocados with lighter flesh like that (but YUM to the deeper green ones!), but I totally agree with you on pit color. I have NEVER seen a yellow pit. They're usually brown, close to how the Mexicola's pit looks.

I would have laughed if you proposed needing a site like this before last week, BUT, last week I delivered a meal to a recently-babied-up friend after registering for my day on Meal Baby.

The best part was the reminder one day before. I'd COMPLETELY forgotten that I'd signed up for a day, but it gave me plenty of time.

I'd say Google Calendar would work just fine, though.

I'll be the lone person who admits to leaving a cut tomato, wrapped tightly in plastic wrap, on the counter for a day or two. Then I eat it. So far, so good. Never more than a couple of days, though.

Booze, definitely, if he's a drinker. A batch of limoncello (you just need lemons and Everclear or vodka, and it's so pretty), or a home-brew beer kit, or maybe homemade cheese? Ricotta and mozzarella are fairly easy to make.

Pickles also sound good, as do homemade potato chips.

I LOVE Cowgirl Creamery's cheeses, except for the Red Hawk! Not because it's stinky (the stinkier the better), but there's something in this cheese that smells e-xact-ly like what our summer home's outhouse smelled like (nature preserve, can't put in plumbing).

I've used other outhouses, too, but for some reason, Red Hawk is spot-on-my-outhouse with it's smell profile. Every time I try to eat it I can't get it near my mouth without thinking about it. Which is awful, since everyone else seems to love it! I want to, too!
